Qari' (قَارٍئplural qurra'), literally meaning "reader", is a person who recites the Qur'an with the proper rules of recitation (tajweed).
It is a wrong conception that qaris have to memorize the entire quran. A person who has memorized the Qur'an is a hafiz. On the other hand, a Hafiz is also a Qari'. Both of them must be able to recite the quran according to the Tajwid.
