Princess Margaretha, Mrs. Ambler
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Princess Margaretha, Mrs Ambler (Margaretha Désirée Victoria) (born 31 October 1934), was born at Haga Palace outside Stockholm. She is the first child of Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten, and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, and granddaughter of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden and Princess Margaret of Connaught (aka Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden).
Before her marriage she had a relationship with Robin Douglas-Home, a Scottish aristocrat. He asked her grandfather, King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden, for permission to marry her but he refused. Then he asked Princess Margaretha's mother, Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, for the same thing but she also refused.
She met her future husband at a dinner party in the United Kingdom in 1963. On 28 February 1964, Princess Margaretha's engagement to the British citizen, John Kenneth Ambler, was announced. They were married on 30 June 1964, in Gärdslösa Church on the isle of Öland. As a result of her unequal marriage, she lost her style of Royal Highness and became Princess Margaretha, Mrs. Ambler.
With her marriage, Princess Margaretha, Mrs Ambler put an end to her life as a public person, as she moved to the United Kingdom. She lives an anonymous life and does not perform any official engagements on behalf of the Royal Family.
Princess Margaretha, Mrs. Ambler and her husband later separated, but never divorced.[1] John Ambler died on 31 May 2008.[2]
Princess Margaretha, Mrs Ambler's marriage has produced three children:
- Sibylla Louise Ambler (b. 14 April 1965) married Baron Cornelius von Dincklage on June 19, 1998 with issue;
- Baroness Madeleine Charlotte Margaretha von Dincklage, (b. 15 March 1999)
- Baron Sebastian Eric Henning von Dincklage (b. 8 September 2000)
- Charles Edward Ambler (b. 14 July 1966), married Helen Jane Ross on July 31, 1999 with issue;
- Sienna Rose Ambler (b. 1 September 2000)
- India Tani Ambler (b. 2003)
- James Patrick Ambler (b. 10 June 1969) married Ursula Mary Shipley on July 25, 2001 with issue;
- Lily Ambler, (b. 28 February 2003)
- Oscar Rufus Ambler (b. 2004 )
