[edit] This bot has been withdrawn and is no longer operating

A minority of editors have expressed views that they disagree with the basic principle of this bot. This bot has therefore been voluntarily withdrawn by its author. - PocklingtonDan 20:29, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] spam

idea is good, implementatin bad. Spamming all editors that ever made some change to an article, bad. I had never been interested in [[Ball] many people have never edited other than doing vandalism revertion. Spamming them is bad (will this extend to other articles? I 've touched several thousand articles doing vandalism revertion and I don't want to be noticed anytime a cleanup tag is slapped into them. -- Drini 03:43, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I second the above notion. Perhaps contacting those who have made significant edits (or a significant number) to the page? --Kukini 03:59, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
This bot was withdrawn several weeks ago. I don't know who set the bot running in this instance but it was not me. - PocklingtonDan 07:47, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
You mean someone else has access to this account and may have been using it to spam? --Tony Sidaway 09:51, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
No, what I mean is that someone else accessed the bot on my CGI server and ran it. I didn't bother to remove the bot code from the server because I thought it was blocked after being withdrawn. I could probably find out the IP address of who ran it by checking the server logs. In any case, since the bot is now blocked, this will not happen again - PocklingtonDan 11:01, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This is a automated to all bot operators

Please take a few moments and fill in the data for your bot on Wikipedia:Bots/Status Thank you Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 19:44, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Automated message to bot owners

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 04:45, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
