Pikes Peak International Raceway was a racetrack located in Fountain, Colorado, south of Colorado Springs and north of Pueblo. Before its closure in 2005, the track hosted races in several series including the Indy Racing League and NASCAR's Busch (now Nationwide) Series and Craftsman Truck Series.
In addition to its one-mile, D-shaped oval, the infield formed part of a 1.3-mile road course. Its grandstand capacity was 42,000, with a further 20,000 able to be seated in the infield for road races.
On September 30, 2005, it was announced that the track had been bought by the International Speedway Corporation. ISC shut the facility down in November of that year and petitioned NASCAR to move the track's Busch Series date to Martinsville Speedway for 2006. [1]
Although the facility has not re-opened, the track and grandstand structures remain intact and are easily visible from Interstate 25.
