Patrick Joseph "Pat" Murphy is the Iowa State Representative from the 28th District and is presently the Speaker of the Iowa House. He previously served as Minority Leader from 2003-07. Murphy is a Democrat and has served in the Iowa House since winning a special election in 1989.[1] He received his BA from Loras College.

Murphy currently serves on several committees in the Iowa House: the Administration and Rules committee and the Labor committee. His prior political experience includes serving on the Birth Defects Advisory Committee since 1995, and on the Dubuque Cable Commission in 1981-1983.

Murphy was re-elected in 2006 with 7,417 votes, running unopposed. [2]
