[edit] Pillbox picture

Having just added the article British anti-invasion preparations of World War II (it is still a work in progress), I am looking for pictures of pillboxes etc. Do you have any more like that? Gaius Cornelius 23:09, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your offer of pictures. I have quite a few pictures of my own to put in, but I particularly like your one of the Norton pillbox that clearly shows it to be circular (pillboxes/21.jpg). Could I trouble you to upload it Wikipedia. My reason for asking you to do this is that Wikipedia is very strict about the status of images and I don't want there to be any doubt about attribution, copyright status etc. Thanks again. Gaius Cornelius 16:20, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that - its in the article... Gaius Cornelius 17:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ruck Machine Gun Post

Palmiped: I have left a reply for you on my user page and expanded further on Talk:British anti-invasion preparations of World War II. Gaius Cornelius 01:12, 9 June 2006 (UTC).

Palmiped: Thanks for your continued interest. With regard to the book: Stanton at War 1939-45, I suppose you know where I might be able to find a copy? Gaius Cornelius 18:00, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SS Canberra

Thanks for the tip about the article in Ships Monthly, I shall be sure to look out for it. Unfortunately it take a few weeks for it to appear in the newsagents here in Australia- I just bought May's yesterday. Did the article shed any light on the RMS debate? --Dashers 23:46, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ja???? and zh????

Sorry thought it was untidy as it shows ???? in In other languages box, why does it not say Chinese or Japanese? Palmiped 12:49, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

It displays correctly to me. Maybe you do not have japanese and chinese fonts installed. This is the way how all japanese and chinese interwiki links are done. At least all I saw. It says "Chinese" in Chinese charecters (I recognize these two). See for instance interwiki links on Earth. Chinese is penultimate one. Actually I think it is done automaticaly by wiki software. --Jan.Smolik 13:00, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POPPYS IN THE FIELD, WEYBOURNE

Hello Palmiped, The picture you have uploaded to the Weybourne "wiki" is not coming in to view. you may need to re-upload it Stavros1 13:15, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I must have some gremlins in my computer as I still cannot see the Image although I can see every other image on that page. All I see is a long Narrow Box with the title in it. Very Strange!!!Stavros1 15:46, 22 November 2006 (UTC) The picture won't come up on the Kelling page either, all I have is a box with the title above the box with the map. Its very strange that it only seems to be that picture that my computer does not want to show me. The link to your upload page that I followed is Blank also.Stavros1 17:27, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Poppy Picture

I have removed the picture that has not loaded properly, pressing control F5 has no effect. Please reload it to see if that will do the trickStavros1 11:02, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for re-loading the poppy picture, my computer still will not let me see it. Dont no why but I'm sure other people will enjoy the photograph. Regards Stavros1 17:34, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

That's Great I can see the Poppy pictures now. The page (Weybourne) if I say so myself is looking good now.Stavros1 23:22, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Infobox ship

Copy of note put on User talk:Enigma3542002 page.... I see you have edited this info box a few times, do you know why RMS Queen Mary 2 infobox has `cost` duplicated? can you fix? Thanks Palmiped 16:14, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Fixed. Mauls 16:36, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bibliography

Copyedit from my page: "You say in edit of Avro Vulcan‎ `The term "bibliography" is not used in Wikipedia but "References" has been adopted to refer to footnotes/endnotes/sources and references` Sorry but I think you will find it is used, for example see Edward Tufte and Jan Tschichold - (Palmiped 19:47, 1 August 2007 (UTC))"

Hi Mr. Palmiped. Yes, I know there are instances of the term "Bibliography" being used, I was a Librarian for 33+ years and I first tried using the term but was politely but nevertheless, firmly informed of some of the protocols in Wikipedia that may not make sense but irregardless, they are the "norm" in this wiki-wacky world of Wikipedia. There is in fact a template for aviation articles that has been adopted as the "standard" format and utilizes the "References" section as a kind of catch-all until there are enough reference citations to create a separate heading: "Notes" or whatever. [edit] Hello Palmiped

Yes I am Fully aware and when it happens I will alter the location to suit. bearing in mind the powers that be have been talking about the relocation to the Anglian Water Treatment Building for almost five years now a still the building is Boarded up. Nothing will Happen yet I'm sureStavros1 23:58, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello Palmiped

I Have tryed and tryed to get this info box to except the sign image but it will not have it, I am not sure if the boxs is fautly or i'm doing somthing wrong. the image is uploaded o.k. Could you have a look and see if you could get it to work . Let me know how you get on . Many thanks Stavros1 20:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello Palmiped

I have been getting coordinates from the version of goggle earth that I have on my system, and it seems that something is out of sinc with it. I have discovered that when I have zoomed on to the centre of a village (I usually pick out the parish church), Goggle earth is giving me the wrong co-ordinates. I will use the source you have suggested from now on, but I have come across the odd one on that page that is slightly out. Even so it seems to be a bit more accurate than Google earth.-- Stavros1 (talk) 19:18, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello Palmiped

I am hoping you can help me? I have been trying to replace the info box on the Holt, Norfolk page with the new style of box but I don’t seem to be able to get the co-ordinates right to place the red dot correctly on the map (Image:Norfolk outline map with UK.png) can you help me with it! So far I have aborted any attempt to change the box as the co-ordinates already on the page when used in the new style box miss the position of holt by miles. I seem to have a lot of problems getting these co-ordinates rightStavros1 (talk) 23:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello Palmiped

Thanks for your reply and offer of help. This afternoon I had another go at getting the co-ordinates right and I finally cracked it, although why I could not get it right last night is still a mystery to me!Stavros1 (talk) 15:36, 5 December 2007 (UTC) 'Hello Palmiped' Thank you for your comment of support about the war Memorial. Do you think you could added it to the Project page( Articles for deletion/West Runton War Memorial) as most editors seem to have a negative attitude towards it. Many thanks Stavros1 (talk) 22:42, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Typo fixing edit summary

Not having used AWB, I'm not familiar with it. Why did many of your edit summaries say Typo-fixing when they were doing something completely different such as [1] or [2]? Thanks DoubleBlue (Talk) 03:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

  • oops should have selected `clean up using AWB` summary option as I did with later AWB edits Palmiped (talk) 13:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
    • That's okay, errors happen. My only concern was that it might be an ordinary edit summary, as long as it's an extraordinary error, I'm happy. By the way, thanks for doing those stub-tag moves to the bottom. It annoys me to see them placed higher than categories and especially higher than DEFAULTSORT. DoubleBlue (Talk) 18:14, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
      • Why dont you try AWB? Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser Palmiped (talk) 20:22, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
        • It looks like a bit of an effort to learn and I rather enjoy taking my time to look over and read the articles while I making "fixes". I may try it someday. :-) Cheers! DoubleBlue (Talk) 10:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

A quick note of thanks for your recent link fixing edits to British anti-invasion preparations of World War II and British hardened field defences of World War II. The check links gadget is very useful. Gaius Cornelius (talk) 17:36, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blakeney Point

Hi Palmiped
I see from the history that you have corrected a link at the External Links chapter. I think it may be a good idea to remove this chapter all together as the link to the National trust is all ready in the Infobox and the second link has more to do with the Village of Blakeney, what do you think. I don’t like to remove someone else work without some form of consensus. Nice to speak to you again by-the-wayStavros1 (talk) 01:55, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Take care with AWB!

Hi, do take care when using AWB: this edit [3] to Birmingham New Street station made rather a hash of the infobox......

[edit] HMS Birkenhead

Thanks for your help with HMS Birkenhead (1845). You've got some interesting material on your website about the Birkenhead survivors - any chance of adding some of this to the article, as I don't know where you sourced it? Cheers. Socrates2008 (Talk) 22:07, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

  • The source for website was from two books by Albert Christopher Addison. (1902) The Story of the Birkenhead and (1906) A Deathless Story of The Birkenhead and its heroes — a full account of the Birkenhead disaster. Palmiped (talk) 22:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Whisper it vey quietly, but I've been to Meadow Lane a few times and even seen County at Wembley (against Bradford City). I've got a fair few relatives and friends who are Pies. To be honest I used to spend most Saturdays at at non-league club. Bevo74 (talk) 17:53, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Use of minor edit flag

Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to 2008 Lincolnshire earthquake, as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Thank you. -- John (Daytona2 · Talk · Contribs) 16:57, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Infoboxes

Hi Palmiped, thanks for comments on infoboxes- will endeavour to add the extra info. I have been deleting the coor title tag as the infobox appears to overwrite this and produce a double image- I presume this is correct? Ning-ning (talk) 21:04, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for help- I see where you've added the postcode_area. Ning-ning (talk) 12:37, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Palmiped

The template below works! But is not as tidy as the other ‘Gissmo’ but it is easy to set to our correct time. I have put it on my user page. It may be possible to incorporate it in a box of some sort Stavros1 (talk)

[edit] The Commons

In case you have not noticed, some of your image uploads have been transferred to the Commons, eg. Image:Arcadia Eijford.jpg and Image:QE2colour.jpg. To save other people the trouble, why not upload your images there in the first place? Even if they are photos of British places and you think no foreign language wiki would use them, it is still good to put them on the Commons because Wikipedians don't like galleries. -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 20:35, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Do not understand what you mean by Wikipedians don't like galleries. --palmiped |  Talk  08:36, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Did you follow the link? "The result was delete." Need I say more? -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 21:00, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh you mean 5 people out of the millions who use wikipedia don't like galleries, I suppose that's why the code `gallery` exists? --palmiped |  Talk  12:20, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Looking at deleted titles I see more than fifty "Gallery of ..." titles that have gone. But the main point of using the Commons is so all languages can share. -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 17:07, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Maybe we are at cross purposes here I am talking about galleries in articles see Kelling --palmiped |  Talk  18:17, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

There are those who would object even to a gallery such as that - but I won't. Look at what they done to Stavros1 in France! The safety play is to create your galleries in the Commons. -- RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 22:56, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] British Pathe News

Hello Paimiped

I have now opened the E-mail you sent me and have watched the footage of the lifeboat launch. I am glad that you mentioned it on my talk page as I very rarely use that E-mail address and probably would not have read the mail there for some weeks. Great bit of film, thanks for pointing me to it. It’s a great resource

[edit] Blakeney Tower Windmill

Hello Paimiped

Thank you for showing interest in the Blakeney Tower Windmill page. I have an interesting problem with the location of the Windmill. There are conflicting sources over the name of the farm where it stands. Norfolk Windmill site calls it Friarage Farm, where as the OS Explorer Map calls the farm Friary and indeed visiting the windmill over the bank holiday revealed that the caravan site that surrounds the mill is called Friary Farm Caravan Park. Can I ask were your National trust info about the name came from? . I am a little dubiouse about the NT as when researching another windmill (Burnham Overy Tower Windmill), there handbook described the windmill as being built out of timber, which it clearly is’nt. RegardsStavros1 (talk) 19:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Portland College

Hello Paimiped

Can I point you to the disscussion page of Portland College as I think more views are needed on this deletion tag which has been placed on this article by Trident13. As a contributor to the page, your views would be much appreciated either way!Stavros1 (talk) 21:23, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Forgot it was there before, but isnt this about history too? If we had the climate for the last 500 years then that would be even better. Given that this is the place for weather measurement then I think this is appropriate. However I don't edit war and I would need to add more to clean up the format. Given that this isn't my prime interest then please feel frre to delete the stuff. Victuallers (talk) 16:03, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bradmore Postmill

Hi Palmiped. The "mill burning down" comes from Nottinghamshire C.C.'s own publication, confirmed by something in the Notts archives whose ref I put as a footnote (but for the life of me can't remember what it was). The mound was still (1995) in existence. It was surveyed in 1980 by Notts Industrial Archaeological Society who quote "discovered it to be rather uneven and simply constructed. They suggest that it was originally moved from Flawforth" end quote. Ning-ning (talk) 19:08, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Archive ref. was dated 1899. Maybe the brick piers were dynamited? Ning-ning (talk) 19:35, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
