Original 106fm is a new radio station broadcasting to Aberdeen and North East Scotland. It was awarded its broadcast licence (the last new FM licence to be issued by Ofcom) in January 2007 and the station launched on October 28th, 2007 at 1.06pm. The first record played was "Revolution" by The Beatles. The radio station is 95% owned by CanWest MediaWorks UK Limited (a subsidiary of CanWest Global Communications), and 5% owned by Seven Broadcast Limited. The station broadcasts an Adult Oriented format, with 40% of its music coming from past or present Top 20 charts. Original 106 is on air 24 hours-a-day, and 100% of programming is produced for Original. The overwhelming majority of programmes are produced and presented locally. Three FM transmitters are in operation, one main transmitter situated at Durris, and two relays covering north Aberdeen and Peterhead, with a high quality UK-wide internet audio stream.

Original 106 plays a mix of hit singles and album tracks from a full range of adult orientated genres including rock, pop, soul, R & B, blues, mellow and adult eclectic from the 60s to today. Specialist music programmes complement the main music mix, in the form of themed night-time shows:
- Monday - "The Lounge". Chilled, relaxing music.
- Tuesday - "Like A Version". Classic and contemporary covers.
- Wednesday - "Original Unplugged". Live and acoustic.
- Thursday - "Artist A to Z"
- Friday - "Arena" - Rock music.
- Saturday - "Decades"
- Sunday - "The Sunday Showcase"
"The Sunday Showcase", is a locally-focused arts, music and entertainment show featuring new music, local bands, theatre, comedy, television, literature, interviews, discussions etc.
Richard Skinner presents the Original Album Chart on Sunday afternoons, a show which is syndicated exclusively across the other two Original stations.

Original 106 is in a unique position in the North East of Scotland, being the only radio station to broadcast hourly round-the-clock news bulletins from Aberdeen, covering local, national and international news. Bulletins are five minutes in duration between 7am and 6pm, three minutes at other times. There is an extended ten minute news briefing at 6am on weekday mornings, and the flagship news magazine "Original Tonight" is on weekday afternoons at 5.30pm. During breakfast and drivetime, there are news headlines at twenty past and twenty to the hour. Sports news is covered in each hourly bulletin and there are comprehensive sports round-ups at 9.30am and during "Original Tonight".
Traffic and Travel bullitens are broadcast every twenty minutes during peak travel periods.
Neil Metcalf is head of news, journalists include Emma Pettis, Fraser Morrison and Angela Carr. Dave Galloway is Sports editor. Former Aberdeen Football club player Joe Harper is a member of the Original sports team, adding his views to coverage of every Dons game as well as the rest of the important fixtures, and co-hosting "Original Upfront Sport" every Friday at 6pm.
Regular "what's-on" and entertainment guides are broadcast daily, complete with information features focused in and around Aberdeen and North East Scotland.
Interviews with local people, personalities from news and entertainment backgrounds, and film/theatre reviewers form a significant part of speech output.
Original 106 has associated itself with local cancer charity Friends Of Anchor, with the aim of publicising it's work and assisiting in fundraising efforts.
