Omar Alghabra (Arabic: عُمر الغبرا) (born October 24, 1969 in Saudi Arabia) is a Canadian Member of Parliament and former president of the Canadian Arab Federation.
He was elected to represent the riding of Mississauga—Erindale, Ontario as a member of the Liberal Party in the 2006 federal election. He is currently the Critic for Immigration. Alghabra has also served on the Community Editorial Board of the Toronto Star.
A professional engineer licensed in Ontario, he is a graduate of the mechanical engineering program at Ryerson University in Toronto and of the Master of Business Administration program at York University.
Omar Alghabra was a key member of Gerard Kennedy's caucus support during the 2006 Liberal Leadership campaign. Upon the election of Stéphane Dion as the leader of the Liberal party of Canada, Alghabra was appointed as the opposition's critic for immigration and citizenship. On top of that he is a member of the standing committee on Immigration and Citizenship.
