Nigel Parkinson is a British cartoonist who currently works for D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd and mainly draws for The Beano and The Dandy.
[edit] Biography
Parkinson started drawing Bea in October of 1998. He drew her in the same style as legendary artist David Parkins, but with a much rounder body and huge eyes. However, from October 2001 he started drawing Bea in his own style. Parkinson also occasionally drew The Bash Street Kids from 1998 to 2001.
In 1998 he also started work on The Dandy's football-mad character Owen Goal (which had previously used reprints of another strip in Nutty by artist Rob Lee). Parkinson introduced the character of Owen's fat, lazy coach (who famously has a sign hanging in his office saying, "Coach - He ate all the Pies")
Pleased with his work on Owen Goal, in 2003, The Dandy commissioned Parkinson to freshen up the look of 'terrible toddlers' Cuddles and Dimples. In October 2004 he took over from the original artist, Barrie Appleby, making the characters look even more demonic.
To celebrate 65 years of The Beano Parkinson commenced work on Dennis the Menace, and has since alternated his interpretation of the character with other artists Jimmy Hansen and Tom Paterson.
