The New England Surge are an expansion team of the Continental Indoor Football League, having begun play in the league's second year, 2007.
The Surge play home games at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester, Massachusetts.[1] On April 24, 2007, only four games into the team's first season, head coach Rick Buffington was fired, replaced by team president Roy Lucas Jr. [2]

Following their 77-40 loss to the Raiders in the season opener the Surge made a determined effort to score the win. In a wild back-and-forth contest the Surge were unable to hold onto the lead and fell 49-40, their first loss with Roy Lucas Jr. as coach. [1]

- April 5 vs. Chesapeake Tide
Following a 28-23 Surge lead at halftime the Tide scored 18 points to 14 Surge points for a 42-41 Surge lead in the game's final twenty seconds. The Tide attempted a 17-yard field goal but it was blocked by Eric Boatwright of the Surge. On the next play Harold Shaw stormed through the Tide defense for his fourth touchdown of the game and a 49-41 final. [4] The game was notable as the Surge replaced quarterback Jason Manson in the second quarter with Shawn Brady.
- April 26 vs. Flint Phantoms
Overcoming two first-half interceptions by Shawn Brady (partly a result of miscommunication between Brady and his receivers in the first half), back-to-back kick-return touchdowns by Phantoms receiver/backup kick returner Robert Boyer in the fourth quarter, a monster game by Phantoms quarterback Roosevelt Wideman, and Flint leads in the second half that fluctuated between 14 and 15 points, the Surge behind three Brady touchdowns in the fourth, a touchdown off a blocked 55-yard Phantoms field goal try by Rashawn "Ojay" Jones, and a fourth-down defensive stop rallied to defeat the Phantoms 49-48 for their fifth straight win. - May 3 vs. Rochester Raiders
The Surge's struggles against Rochester continued in a gory 62-20 humiliation at Blue Cross Arena. The Surge were shut out in the second half as the Raiders scored 28 unanswered points and collapsed New England's offensive line. The loss was the first for Shawn Brady, held to just 15 of 30 with three interceptions, and the Raiders remained the only team against which team owner/head coach Roy Lucas, Jr. was winless in this, the Surge's fourth career matchup against Rochester.
- May 31 vs. Rochester Raiders
The Surge's career winless streak against Rochester reached five with a 52-25 drubbing at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. The Raiders surrendered only a safety off a blocked field goal try in the first half, scoring four touchdowns in the process. Shawn Brady was picked off three times (one INT was in the Raiders endzone) in the first half and would surrender a fourth INT in the fourth quarter. It turned out to be the Surge's final game against Rochester as the Raiders withdrew from the CIFL after the regular season.
