Neonopolis is an entertainment complex in Las Vegas, Nevada located on top of a $15 million parking garage owned by the city. It is located on the Fremont Street Experience, at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard. Neonopolis had been the permanent site of the Poker Dome, home of the Poker Dome Challenge.[1] The first Poker Dome event was held here on July 30, 2006. The Poker Dome announced plans in June 2007 to pull out of Neonopolis, citing MANSIONPoker's decision to drop its corporate sponsorship of the Poker Dome Challenge.[2]
Neonopolis has so far been a failure commercially, cycling through several buyers until it reached its current owners in 2006.[3]Some have speculated that part of the problem is its insistence on charging for parking, whereas parking is free everywhere else in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, including the much more popular Strip.[citation needed]
