Nalani (meaning "calmness of the skies or heavens" in Hawaiian) is a female Orca born on September 18, 2006 at SeaWorld Orlando in Florida. Nalani's mother is an Icelandic female named Katina. This is Katina's sixth calf after Kalina (born in 1985), Katerina* (born in 1988, died in 1999), Taku* (born in 1993, died in 2007), Unna (born in 1996) and Ikaika (born in 2002). Nalani is an inbred calf, (her father Taku is also her half brother), trainers were optimistic on how the health of this calf would develop over time, considering the fact inbred orcas are at higher risk of disease, but so far Nalani is doing very well.
