The unnamed fifth studio album by English rock band Muse is currently being written, with no announced release date.
The band have speculated that the album might have a more "electronic" feel,[1] and have also mentioned introducing a more "dance music" feel, as well as drawing on classical influences, possibly fitting in a Mediterranean tour.[2]
The band have already written a few songs and will continue to compose until their world tour is concluded at the 2008 V Festival.[3] Matt Bellamy is not immediately sure if the record will appear as a conventional album, speculating that it might be a stream of singles or just one 50 minute symphony.[4] They have however, decided not to release it via download in the manner that Radiohead did.[5]
On June 4th Dom Howard posted the following message on the band's Twitter profile; "...Back in rehearsals working on new songs and ideas. Otherworldly dark disco to 15 minute orchestral monsters... and things in between. Hard to say exactly where it's heading, but we are very excited by it all. See you someplace soon."[6] This seems to correlate with the details that have previously been released.
