[edit] Pro career
In his early career, Grant beat Corey Sanders by early KO, beat ex-contender Lionel Butler, Cuban Jorge Luis Gonzalez, was the first man to stop both Obed Sullivan and Al Cole, and knocked out hard-punching David Izon (which brought him a ranking in the Ring Magazine), and outpointed Lou Savarese. He also fought Andrew Golota. During that fight Grant was knocked down twice only to come from behind to score a knockout in the tenth round.
These fights earned him a heavily-hyped title shot against heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. Lewis successfully defended his title by a second round knockout.
In later bouts Grant fought and lost to Jameel McCline in 2001, where he was knocked down in the first round and had to retire due to a broken ankle. After a brief comeback, then-undefeated Dominick Guinn knocked him out in 2003. Since the loss, Grant has fought sporadically against limited opposition, most recently defeating Billy Zumbrun by TKO in June of 2007 and a September 2007 NYC contest against Kevin Montiy, which grant won by TKO in round 7.
The once heavily-hyped Grant has had several high-profile trainers, including Don Turner, Teddy Atlas, and Buddy McGirt.
