[edit] Request Information
- Request made by: Rklawton 18:31, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Where is the issue taking place?
- Thumb wrestling (at present)
- Who's involved?
- User:Slyder Pilot
- What's going on?
- Slyder Pilot is using his account to promote a bogus "professional league": International Thumb Wrestling Association. This "association" consists of a one-person, personal website on Geocities. An article about this "association" has been AfD'd[1]. The International Thumb Wrestling Association article has since been protected from recreation. At present, Slyder Pilot insists on placing a link to this personal website in the Thumb wrestling article. Given that this website is the sole product of an individual's imagination (a nice way of saying "hoax"), it's not encyclopedic, and it doesn't belong a legitimate article about the children's game.
- I'm working through the standard dispute resolution steps:
- I've exchanged messages with Slyder Pilot over the summer about this.
- I've waited a few months to see if things might settle down.
- I've re-initiated a dialogue with Slyder Pilot - but without success, so I thought I'd try step #3 and see if mediation might help.
- What would you like to change about that?
- I would like to see the link/reference for the "ITWA" removed from the Thumb wrestling article and any other article that attempts to cast legitimacy on this bogus organization.
- Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
- I believe all discussions about this topic should be open to all editors for review or comment. Rklawton 18:31, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mediator response
OK I'll step in here and look things over. This is sort of an interesting dispute, and I have experience with these kinds of things. DMeyering *talk*
- This case may be winding down now. Unless something happens again soon, I'll just say the issue worked itself out. Antimatter---talk--- 03:00, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- It's been two weeks. No reverts on the thumb wrestling page, no additions to the talk page or case discussion. I'm gonna say, apprehensively, the mediation was successful. Case closed! Antimatter---talk--- 17:27, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion
While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.
January 22, 2007: User:Slyder Pilot has re-added the ITWA (Geocities) link to the Thumb wrestling article again. A policy summary follows:
- The ITWA itself violates WP:NFT (and was AfD'd from Wikipedia last year)
- The link to the Geocities site fails Wikipedia:External links
- SP's editing of this article represents a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest
- SP immediately removed both discussion and warning from his talk page diff (generally considered a bad idea)
