Matt Gutierrez (born June 9, 1984 in Concord, California) is an American football quarterback for the New England Patriots of the NFL. He was signed by New England on May 8, 2007 as an undrafted rookie free agent and made the team as the third quarterback.
Gutierrez played high school ball for perennial powerhouse De La Salle, where he never lost a game as a Spartan. He then went on to play at the University of Michigan, where he was slated to be the starter in 2004 before he suffered a shoulder injury (a torn labrum). Gutierrez then transferred to Idaho State University, where he started at quarterback in 2006.
Gutierrez played in his first career regular season game on October 21, 2007 against the Miami Dolphins. He completed his first regular season pass for a 15 yard gain.
