[edit] High school years
Chatham attended North High School in Sioux City, Iowa, and won All-State honors in football and baseball.
[edit] College career
Chatham attended the University of South Dakota. As a junior he made 95 tacles and six interceptions. In his senior year he made 74 tackles and one interception.
[edit] NFL career
Chatham was signed by the St. Louis Rams as a rookie free agent but was released before the start of the regular season.
He spent the first six seasons of his career in New England, where he was instrumental in the Patriots' three Super Bowl victories (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX). Chatham's most notable play was the leveling of a streaker, identified as Mark Francis Roberts, as he ran from security personnel during Super Bowl XXXVIII. *This play ranks #50 on ESPN's Greatest Super Bowl moments.
On January 5, 2007, between NBC's two Wild Card games, Peter King said that it is widely believed that Chatham's signing with the Jets early the prior offseason is one of the major reasons Patriots coach Bill Belichick is upset at his former defensive coordinator and current Jets coach Eric Mangini. King said the signing broke a code among coaches in the Bill Parcells coaching tree, which says don't touch each other's players.
