Marleen Vanderpoorten

Marleen Caroline Valère Vanderpoorten (born July 21, 1954 in Lier) is a Flemish politician and member of the VLD. She is a daughter of Herman Vanderpoorten and a granddaughter of Arthur Vanderpoorten. She obtained a degree in history from the University of Ghent (Ghent, Belgium)
From 1999 to 2004 she was the Minister of Education in the Flemish Government. On July 12, 2006 she succeeded Norbert De Batselier as President of the Flemish Parliament.
