[edit] Purpose

The following guidelines apply to all Singapore-related topics under the purview of the SGpedians' notice board. While contributors are encouraged to implement them for consistent presentation, they are also free to ignore all rules so long that it is reasonable to do so.

[edit] General

[edit] People

For Singaporeans of Chinese descent, article titles should follow Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese). In particular, this means that names will normally be written in the local form, not pinyin (eg. Lee Kuan Yew, not Lǐ Guāngyào).

For Singaporeans of Malay descent, use of the templates {{malay_name}} (for Malay names in general) and {{malay_name2}} (for names with bin or binte) is recommended.

[edit] Layout

[edit] Lead

  • Singapore-related articles should have the name of the subject listed in all four official languages, in the following order: English, Malay, Chinese, Tamil.
    • For Chinese, use simplified characters and also give the pinyin reading. You can use the zh-cp template as follows: {{zh-cp|c=simplified characters|p=pinyin}}
  • Alternative, non-English names should usually be listed once. If the article has an infobox, the names should be listed there. If not, the names go in the first sentence of the lead.
  • If the names have a complex history or vary considerably from language to language (eg. Tekka Centre), this should be discussed in a separate section, not the lead.
