M-46 is an east-west highway in the U.S. state of Michigan between Muskegon and Port Sanilac, reaching Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. It nearly bisects the Lower Peninsula of Michigan latitudinally.
Except for the uncharacteristic north-south segment that corresponds with the US 131 freeway between Cedar Springs and Howard City it is practically a due east-west surface highway, little of it divided. For motorists north of the Grand Rapids-Lansing-Flint corridor it is a major highway, in part because Saginaw is the largest city on its route.

[edit] History
In the 1930's, M-46 originally cosigned with US 131, then turned west onto what was later part of M-57 (now M-46 again). Later, M-46 was routed onto what is now M-82, then cosigned with M-37 to its current route westward to Muskegon; and in Saginaw, in the 1930's, M-46 followed Holland Ave. to Washington Ave., then across the Saginaw River via the Court St. Bridge to Michigan Ave., then onto Gratiot Ave. westward.
