Howdy. I've been a Wikipedia contributor since mid December 2002, but didn't become a full time contributor until April 7, 2003.
As my User name suggests, I am a longevitymonger (a fictitious word dreamed up by me because of my hobby with centenarians.) Why centenarians you ask? Well, a centenarian is a person who has lived to be over 100 years old. Few people live to reach this remarkable milestone, especially notable individuals such as Irving Berlin or Strom Thurmond. Why my interest in these people? I simply find it amazing to actually speak with a person that has lived an entire century or more. My cousin also is a "longevitymonger" and we are authoring a lengthy work dealing with local, notable and super-centenarians.
In past years, I have met a few centenarians (the oldest being 109 years of age) that live in or around my hometown of Gerry, New York (which is named after James Madison's vice-president Elbridge Gerry). On the whole, my area of expertise is the research of notable centenarians, and have spent many hours at the library and online searching for persons like Sir Moses Montefiore and Cornelius Cole. I have also established (with the aid of my cousin) a list (similar to the one here on Wikipedia) that is made up solely of notable individuals who have reached 100+ years of age. As of this writing (2007) it stands at nearly 600+ individuals from all walks of life. Many of these persons do not yet have articles on here, and if I feel so inclined, will try to remedy that in the coming months.
Another interest of mine is facts about the Presidents, Vice Presidents, past Cabinet Members and other political fields, the Cabinet taking high priority because there are so many of them. I also have established a folder of "The Strangest Names in American Political History."
Overall, I consider myself "An abnormality prone to inexplicable acts of pondering factual information" because of my various hobbies and have many other things that fill my life, such as watching classic films like Taxi Driver, Schindler's List, or Citizen Kane or listening to some of my favorite bands, such as Led Zeppelin, King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator. In conclusion, I would describe myself as.......original!!!!!
If you come across a notable centenarian or supercentenarian, please try to add them to the list. Just click on the link above. Since I began contributing here the centenarians list has expanded by leaps and bounds, and a major thanks goes to any and all who have contributed to it thus far. Cheers!
