Kyle XY is an American drama television series filmed in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. The show centers around a boy named Kyle (Matt Dallas), who wakes up in the forest outside of Seattle, Washington with no memory of his life up until that point. The series follows Kyle as he tries to understand the mysteries of who he is or why he has no memory of being a child. He is sometimes shown with his shirt partially off and no belly button can be seen.

The show premiered June 26, 2006 on the ABC Family network. Episodes were also broadcast on ABC the first season, but only for part of the second season, after which it could only be seen on ABC Family.

After a 10-episode debut season on ABC Family during Summer 2006, news reported a total of 23 new episodes were ordered for the second season, which started on June 11, 2007, with rebroadcasts on ABC beginning on June 15, 2007.^[1] The second season’s 13th episode, “Leap of Faith”, aired on Monday, September 3, 2007; the remaining 10 began airing on January 14, 2008. The German version was aired 8 December 2007. ^[2] Actor Jean-Luc Bilodeau (who plays Josh Trager) has said in an interview that the cast is “finishing filming in October"; the show started its second season in the UK on Monday, September 3, 2007. And on April 5, the first season was broadcasted in France on M6. On October 5, 2007, TV Guide reported that ABC family has renewed Kyle XY for a third season of 10 episodes.

The show has just recently premiered in the UK, on BBC 2 as part of BBC Switch broadcasting weekly on Saturdays at 12pm, or some times is shown after a double bill of Star Trek at around 1.40am.

The premiere episode of Kyle XY was ABC Family channel’s highest rated original series premiere, according to their press release (as of June 2006). According to the same press release, the show received a household rating of 2.1 and reached 2.6 million viewers.^[3] The repeat showing of the first episode on sister broadcast network ABC had more than 5.2 million viewers.^[4]

There are currently two novels based on the series out and published, both from author S. G. Wilkins. The first, Kyle XY: Nowhere to Hide, concerns Kyle's first Halloween, while the second, Kyle XY: Under the Radar, concerns the school's presidential election, with Kyle a candidate. Two other books have been said.

The music supervisor for the show is Chris Mollere. Michael Suby wrote the opening theme, and most of the score and cues. Neither the theme nor any of the score appear on the soundtrack CD.

[edit] Alternate reality game

Kyle XY as a series also features an alternate reality game where the players are “invited” to help solve the mystery of who Kyle really is. The Mada Corporation website^[5] is the game’s rabbit hole — the introduction to the game universe. By clicking on “Our Jobs” in the menu, the gamer is taken to an anti-Madacorp Blog, where clues are left for revealing the truth about Kyle. It has been removed since the premiere of Season 2 and the Mada Corporation Website has been completely re-done to act as a real working website. The game also makes use of the website for a group called “The Latnok Society” and a brand new clue tracker room, which is more interactive than the previous one (see below).

• Season 1 episode 10: When Kyle drives away in a car, the logos on the trunk disappear and reappear from one shot to the next.
• Season 2 episode 13: A face resembling Kyle is seen under Kyle's armpit towards the end of the episode when he is trying to prevent Jessi from jumping off the waterfall.

• Declan’s surname, McDonough, is not revealed until the sixth episode ("Blame It on the Rain"), when Declan meets Stephen Trager. The show’s website originally mentioned it as being “McMannus” (Declan MacManus is the real name of Elvis Costello), while closed captioning for the show identified it as “McDonough". The alternate reality game mistakenly indicated that it was “Tanner”, which was actually the last name of Charlie, Amanda’s ex-boyfriend.
• Throughout most early episodes, Sour Patch Kids candies are mentioned or shown in the background as they were originally the show’s main sponsor. They are Kyle’s favorite candies as mentioned by Amanda.
• Zzyzx, the name of the lab that Adam Baylin founded, was named after an exit on interstate 15 from Las Vegas headed southwest toward LA.
• The location of the Madacorp entrance is the same building used for the 4400 Center in The 4400.
• All Beachwood High School scenes are filmed at Templeton Secondary School in Vancouver, British Columbia.
• The novel "The Mind of Mr Soames" (1961) by Charles Eric Maine has a similar synopsis. "John Soames is a patient at the Midlands Neurological Hospital who has been in a coma for 30 years. Dr. Bergen, a neurosurgeon, revives Soames from his slumber during a lengthy televised operation. When Soames eventually awakens he has the body of a man with the mental capacity of a child, but Dr. Maitland is certain that he can accelerate the maturation process with unrelenting education sessions (...)"
• In the first episode, there was a news report of a girl who woke up on the beach with no memory. Although this has not been addressed directly, it can be seen as a clue to the introduction of the character of Jessi Hollander in Season 2. Nevertheless, as Jessi's "birth" was depicted in the Season 2 premiere, this foreshadow becomes arguable.
• The first season's second episode, "Sleepless in Seattle" was the only episode of the first season not to receive a TV-14 rating(TV-PG instead). Also, episode four, "Diving In" is the only episode to have "Viewer Discretion Advised" appear before each commercial period ended due to a greater amount of mature topics. Since then two episodes near the end of the second season have also been rated TV-PG, instead of TV-14, which are Primary Colors and Grey Matters.
• The original pilot episode was shot an entire year earlier than the aired pilot episode. This required Jean-Luc Bilodeau (Josh) to dub over his "higher" voice in certain scenes because it did not match his voice at the re-shoot. In the episode, the shots of Jean-Luc alternate between him at one height and then appearing 5 inches shorter in other shots. The original pilot can be seen on the Season 1: Declassified DVD.
• 47 27'N 122 18' W, the mysterious coordinates revealed in Season 1, which are supposed to be the coordinates of a restricted area in the forest, are in fact pointing on a road next to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
