Kristian Leontiou is a popular, English singer songwriter from East London, England. He was born in 1984 to a Greek Cypriot father [1] and an English mother. His sister, Alexa, is a singer in her own band and guest-vocalled on his B-Side, "Hi-Lo & In Between". Diagnosed with dyslexia from an early age, Kristian had a number of jobs in various career paths before he decided to get into music.
After making a demo tape, he eventually had a meeting with Polydor Records, who judged him on his looks upon hearing the demo tape, feeling he was more suited to rap music by his looks. However they changed their minds and signed him in late 2003 for a deal worth £1 million. He was marketed as a "male Dido" and aimed at a BBC Radio 2 audience. His debut single "Story Of My Life" was released in June 2004 and reached #9 in the UK Singles Chart. His second single "Shining" peaked at #13 in August and was the 32nd most-played record in the UK in 2004.
His album Some Day Soon was certified gold (100,000 copies sold) and reached #13 in the albums chart. A third single "Some Say" was released in November but could only reach # 54. In April 2005, the album was re-packaged with a cover of Tracey Chapman's "Fast Car".
Kristian toured the UK in November 2004.
He is now a part of the band One eskimO. One eskimO's forthcoming album is produced by Faithless' Rollo Armstrong, and One eskimO collaborated with Faithless for the song "Hope & Glory", in the album To All New Arrivals[2].
