Kelch proteins (and Kelch-like proteins) are proteins that have repeated kelch domains. Most Kelch proteins also have a BTB (defn) domain. Each kelch domain forms the blade of a propellar structure, with the repeated kelch domains forming a Beta-propellar. The structure of this Beta-propellar is known but the function is not characterised.

The N-terminus of Kelch proteins has a BTB (broad-complex, tram-track and bric-a-brac) domain The BTB domain of kelch proteins (if present) allows the formation of homo- or heterodimers such that it mediated protein-protein interactions.
The C-terminus of Kelch proteins contains kelch repeats. Each kelch repeat motif is a 44-55 amino acid long peptide, usually occurring in clusters of 4 -7 repeats, forming a kelch domian.
Each kelch repeat forms a β-sheet secondary structure and forms a single 'blade' of the β-propellar tertiary structure that characterises Kelch domains. Traditionally, kelch domains have been found to have an affinity for actin filaments of a cell.

The function of Kelch proteins is unknown. However they commonly seen to associate with actin tails

The first Kelch protein (from which this family derives its name) was isolated from Drosophila. It has also been isolated in many other animals [INSERT], bacteria, fungi, and even virus (restricted to Poxviridae)
