[edit] Early life
Karlie Kloss was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in St.Louis, Missouri. Karlie started out doing ballet and studied at Caston’s Ballet Academy. She's always been into sports and ballet. She was discoverd in St. Louis, she went to a model search for a local benefit runway show (called Thread of Hope) (when she was 13) at West County Mall. She did it to support the cause and for a family friend. There were scouts from Elite Chicago and Elite NYC there. She never thought of it before that. Jeff and Mary Clarke of Mother Model Management discovered Karlie at the fashion show and knew right then and there that she was meant to be big. And IMG kept watch of her after that, for 2 years due to her age. Once she turned 15 they picked her up. She says ballet has helped to train her for modeling. Karlie is currently in her freshman year of high school at Webster Groves High School.

[edit] Scandal
In January of 2008, there was a gossip article written on a blog about Karlie suffering from an eating disorder and going to rebab. The article was false and was actually made up by a jealous mother whose daughter was competing with Karlie for a job. Oddly enough, it was right around the time she left Elite.
On April 18, 2008 Elite filed a lawsuit against NEXT, citing that they "stole" Karlie by resorting to improper compensation. [8]
At the Jill Stuart show, former model turned TV host Tyra Banks was seen imitating Karlie's walk. And then it was all over nymag.com. Many claimed she was being inappropriate by imiating Karlie. That, or she liked Karlie's walk.
