Kallithea FC (Kallithea, Athens, Greece, in Greek Γ.Σ. Καλλιθέα) [2] was founded in 1966 from the amalgamation of four local football (soccer) clubs: Esperos [3] (played in Greek Division 1 in years 1948-49, 1949-50 and 1954-55), Iraklis (Hercules), AE Kallitheas and Kallithaikos. A fifth club (Pyrsos) joined next year (1967). The five stars in the club's logo depict the five founders.
Kallithea FC (in Greek "Gymnasticos Syllogos Kallithea" or GS Kallithea) started playing in Division 3 in year 1966. In year 1969 was promoted to Division 2 and in year 2002 to Division 1.
Since its foundation (1966) Kallithea FC has played for 15 periods in Division 3 (1966-1969, 1975, 1982-1987, 1990-1993, 1994-1997), 21 periods in Division 2 (1969-1975, 1976-1982, 1987-1990, 1993, 1997-2002) and 4 periods in Division 1 (2002-2006).
In January 2005 the top scorer of the Greek Championship, Theofanis Gekas, was transferred from Kallithea FC to Panathinaikos and from there in September 2006 to VfL Bochum, where he scored 20 goals and became the top scorer of the German Championship 2006-2007 [4]. In July 2005 Tasos Kyriakos, was transferred from Kallithea FC to Olympiakos.
Football ground: Kallithea Municipal Stadium "Gregoris Lambrakis" (capacity 5,000) at the Sikelia Heights, also known as "El Paso", a name acquired during the 1960s after the "For a Few Dollars More" spaghetti-western film.
