John Hardin High School is a school in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Established in 2001, the school is named after the Revolutionary War officer and Indian fighter, John Hardin.

The school runs on "block" scheduling; there are four 90 minute blocks of class a day. Students are required to receive 27 credits before graduation. The exact credits required vary depending on the desired diploma: the Commonwealth diploma, the highest and most difficult to achieve, the Academic Studies diploma (second highest), and the Regular Studies diploma. The classes rotate every semester, or half-school year.

The school is 74% White, 20% Black, 3.2% Latino, 2.6% Asian and 0.2% American Indian. [1]

The school hosts numerous clubs and organizations including: National Honor Society, National FFA Organization, Future Educators of America, Kentucky United Nations Assembly, DECA, FBLA, BETA, FCCLA, etc. It also has Varsity, Jr. Varsity, and Freshman football, soccer, volleyball, etc. teams, as well as Concert, Symphonic, and Marching bands.

The Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center (the PAC) serves the entire Hardin County district and is operated separately from John Hardin High School. It serves over 30,000 students annually with its educational programming and over 10,000 Hardin Countians through locally produced and national touring productions.

John Hardin is well known for its outstanding football program, headed by coach Mark Brown. The basketball team has advanced to the region finals twice and to the state tournament once. The Bulldogs boys soccer team advanced to the KHSAA State Tournament for the first time in the fall of 2007.

[edit] Principal Situation

John Hardin High School has had three different principals in the past three years. Brent Holsclaw was the school's first principal. In 2005 Brent Holsclaw left to take the superintendent's job in Bardstown, Kentucky. Bryan Todd was named the interim principal for the 2005-2006 school year. He has since been replaced by Alvin Garrison.

[edit] Principal DUI Charges

The principal of John Hardin High School received a DUI charge after a traffic stop in Elizabethtown. Officers said they pulled over Alvin Garrison for going 52 in a 35 zone on Ring Road around 9:30 p.m. April 20th, 2008.

Police said Garrison failed all six field sobriety tests and blew a .134 on a preliminary breathalyzer test.

Garrison is charged with DUI and speeding.

He has returned as principal since the incident. [2]

Mr.Garrison will remain Principal until his court hearing, from there it will be determined whether or not his position will be permanent.

[edit] Bill Clinton Visits John Hardin

Former president Bill Clinton visited John Hardin High School on May 15th, 2008 to campaign for his wife, Hillary Clinton in the 2008 democratic primary election. He personally met with John Hardin Principal Alvin Garrison, and other members of the John Hardin staff such as Gregory Cecil and Dr. Nicholouse Dexter, before delivering his speech. The event took place at 7:30p.m and was open to the public. [3]
