Hey. I like how you deleted a page of mine that received national coverage on Associated Press, CNN, and college newspapers around the nation with you saying it had no significant purpose. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Br1antt (talk • contribs) 09:15, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Simple... still fails notability, and has numerous issues with our biographies guidelines. Jmlk17 09:19, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Claus Pedersen

Why did you delete the company description of MyHoliday.com It is no different that the description of HolidayLettings which is ok, or?

Claus Pedersen (talk) 09:49, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

It seemed to be a spam article. Jmlk17 09:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok. But it wasn't. Please restore it again.

Claus Pedersen (talk) 09:55, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, that doesn't really explain it. HolidayLettings is a highly-visited and popular website. Jmlk17 09:59, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

And? Do you have shares of that company? It's not spam when a larger company has a profile page, but it is when a smaller company has? So if Microsoft decides to send spam e-mails to everybody - then it is ok?

Claus Pedersen (talk) 10:05, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Uh, no, I don't own shares. Perhaps the deletion as spam wasn't correct, but the website almost certainly fails notability. Jmlk17 10:06, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

So, it's the lack of references that is the problem? Like HolidayLettings reference to their own press release? I will add a reference to for instanse webuser.co.uk's review of the site from issue 168. Claus Pedersen (talk) 10:20, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Some good, third-party sources would be key. Jmlk17 10:22, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, fine. Please restore the article then. Let me know when it's done and I will update it with third-party references.

Claus Pedersen (talk) 10:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Done. Jmlk17 10:28, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I have added a couple of third-party references. Is it ok now?

Claus Pedersen (talk) 10:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

It's gone again - why? It seems to be the user Ukexpat or was it you? Could you please take a look at it?

Claus Pedersen (talk) 19:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Was not me... I've been gone for the last several hours. Jmlk17 19:57, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

My request for bureaucratship

Mukilteo Fairies

Hi Jmlk17. I see you deleted Mukilteo Fairies and Behead the Prophet, No Lord Shall Live due to expired PROD and an AfD, respectively. I'm wondering if you might be able to restore/userify these article in my userspace, so that I can incorporate any relevant info into Joshua Plague. Please let me know. Thanks. Yilloslime (t) 00:37, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Of course... would you like them restored to your personal sandbox? Jmlk17 07:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes please. COuld you throw them in User:Yilloslime/Mukilteo_Fairies and User:Yilloslime/Behead the Prophet, No Lord Shall Live? THanks. Yilloslime (t) 15:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Done. :) Jmlk17 19:45, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks. Yilloslime (t) 20:58, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Very welcome. Best of luck with the editing! :) Jmlk17 20:59, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Sound Unlimited (Sound Unlimited Posse)

Its hard to assume good faith on your behalf when this article was deleted as being non significant. I cannot find any AfD. I see youre a bit of a deletionist. Thanks. I'll make sure that ANY AfD or dispute by you is shut down by use of proper sources. 203.57.241.67 (talk) 02:32, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Encise

Looks like you got a warning for the above... hmmm. Jmlk17 08:11, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
  • The result of the article taken to AfD was Keep. The only warning I see here is to those who delete articles in bad faith. Have a nice day. Encise (talk) 05:44, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Mushkin page deleted

I see that the Mushkin page was already deleted.
I know it has been marked for deletion, but I couldn't see how the article was deemed as Blatant Advertising. The article was written in a neutral, third party manner and was not selling anything. The article was mainly to serve as an information & reference for viewers.

Can you please discuss which part of the article makes you think that it's an advertisement?

I strongly believe that it's quite neutral just like other Wikipedia pages because I've actually referred to many other Wikipedia pages while writting this article.

Thanks. Seksek (talk) 05:26, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I'll be more than happy to figure it out with you. The state of the page at deletion however, was just a list of inventory/available items. There was no mention of any notability of a corporation. If you have some, I'll be pleased to restore the page and let ya pop them in there. :) Jmlk17 07:49, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I see. I'll input some references on the corporate as well as the news on the acquisition and some references or review of Mushkin. Btw, the list of products is intended as extra information on the subject. Do restore and give me some time to write those in. Thanks a lot. 210.19.205.158 (talk) 08:58, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Done. Best of luck! Jmlk17 09:00, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Cool. That's really fast, didn't know you're online. Thanks :)

No problem. I tend to have random times online lately. :) Jmlk17 09:06, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've added some references to the article. I will search for more data for this article. Please advise if this is the right direction. Thanks. Seksek (talk) 11:00, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Looking good so far... :) Jmlk17 11:01, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks again. Can I also know how I can have the speedy deletion tag taken off the page? Seksek (talk) 12:35, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Just edit the page and remove the tag at the top. Jmlk17 19:42, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
OK! Didn't know I can remove the tag without violating anything... :P Thanks Seksek (talk) 08:35, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Sure thing. :) Jmlk17 08:36, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Neo Big Brother

Why did you delete the article on Neo Big Brother?

It's an important part of a guild in Neopets.com! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lemon8265 (talkcontribs) 09:08, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

It was deleted for our web notability guidelines. It would perhaps go better as a section on the Neopets article. Jmlk17 09:13, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Talk:Muhammad/images#Additions_to_the_FAQ

Seeing as this subject has been run off the rails, do you think it might be time to archive it? -MasonicDevice (talk) 20:27, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes. I was thinking of doing that now actually. :) Jmlk17 20:29, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I was trying to keep the discussion small and OnT, but trying to do that with RTW is a bit like riding a bucking bronco. He'll always throw you off, or worse, turn around and bite you.-MasonicDevice (talk) 20:42, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I don't think RTWise will ever be able to agree with much (or anything) of the opposing viewpoint. Keep up the good work though my friend. :) Jmlk17 20:44, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

R.E.W.A.R.D.S. Foundation

Hello, I was in the process of building an article on this foundation and it was deleted. I read the A7 code re "notability".

I have edited a few wikipedia pages but this is my first new entry to Wiki, so I may not be using the correct procedure. I'd appreciate understanding more about your objection to the article, and suggestions for improvement.

It was my intention to support the info with additional references and link to related wikipedia articles.

---Dan —Preceding unsigned comment added by D1doherty (talkcontribs) 20:36, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey there Dan, sorry for the conflict here. I deleted the article due to a seen lack of group notability. If you have good third-party sources, or can show how R.E.W.A.R.D.S. is a notable group, I'll be more than happy to restore it for you. :) Jmlk17 20:41, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, The organization has been around for about 5 years and launched a smoking prevention program in mid January 2008. 400 kids signed up in the first month and it received coverage in Canada and the USA on local and national news neworks, with a few hits in Europe, including Albania! google search on full name Google search on short name

Does this address "notable group"?

I felt it would make a good article because of the broad media coverage it has been receiving, the unique structure of the program and how is informed by research and is built on what kids say will keep them from smoking. I was laying down the basics, then adding links when you deleted it. My goal is to link research around effective youth support programs. D1doherty (talk) 21:04, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm honestly not so sure. Perhaps we could get others to weigh in on a deletion review. Jmlk17 21:11, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Thanks for your comments. I'll reflect on the "notability" guidelines, revise and resubmit.

I'm not sure what you saw, since the article was deleted while I was loading the initial text.

I imagine you have to evaluate a gazillion pages in a day, so need to make quick decisions. I offer the following quote from the guidelines, as feedback on the timing of the deletion:

Speedy Deletion - Par 3. "Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved...or be handled with some other action short of deletion. If this is possible, speedy deletion is probably inappropriate. Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete."

Best regards

D1doherty (talk) 01:08, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Good point... best of luck! :) Jmlk17 19:43, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Pedophile topic mentorship

Thank you for offering to act as a mentor to pedophilia related articles. Please see the above link for the mentors noticeboard where users involved in disputes on the topic pages can act for input from the mentors. I would appreciate help in forming this so changes to the page would be very welcomed and also ideas of how to link the page so it is well seen. Ryan Postlethwaite 00:11, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok...

As wikipedia just can't put a link to publicly available administrative pages... or make it easily clear on certain topics, i have to keep bugging admins. first off, try and fix that problem.--Jakezing (talk) 01:29, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

No clue what you're talking about... you must be mad Kosovo had to be protected against edit-warring again. Sorta clueless on how you think I can fix that. Jmlk17 08:26, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
No if i was mad about that i'd have already talked about it. --Jakezing (talk) 14:16, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Can't really be mad that it's a hot topic though ya know? It seems to get quite heated at times, and probably will for some time. Jmlk17 16:04, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Orphan City

i would like for you to explain to me why you deleted the page on "Orphan City". i was still adding to it.. please explain. 198.246.246.8 (talk) 06:14, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Sure... it failed our notability guidelines on bands. Jmlk17 08:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

what if the band was in the Bodog battle of the bands.. they won the first round and came in 2nd place in the wildcard round. [3] [4]

i know that the rule said that the band must have won or placed.. can this count? Webbelot (talk) 12:22, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't think losing in a battle of the bands counts. Jmlk17 17:27, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

one cool word magazine, march 13th

Hey,

Why is one cool word magazine any less important than other literary magazines on here? We are not a club or a group or a band, so your "reason" makes no sense! This is ridiculous censorship. A lot of people search for us on Google so why does it hurt to also have a Wikipedia page?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Onewayyouturn (talkcontribs) 06:33, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Please read our notability guidelines. And as for this being "censorship", I just don't know exactly where you get that from... Jmlk17 06:37, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Memewar, Geist, Adbusters, TISH, and Subterrain are all on here - so why are we censored? We're another Canadian literary magazine from Vancouver. What makes us different from these?

Lack of notability. Jmlk17 06:38, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

So once I add references it will be left up?

Depends... do you have good, reliable third-party sources? Jmlk17 06:40, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes

Have at it then. :) Jmlk17 06:44, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

And by the way, our reference will be the Canadian Literature|Canadian Literary Magazines/Journals website and Memewar Magazine (I'm only using them as an example because they are a very comparable magazine to ours) simply has a link to a review (which seems to be a blog, where I can't even find info on them). So I can't imagine you not seeing this as a reliable third-party source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Onewayyouturn (talkcontribs) 06:48, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm having trouble with the links, even though I'm following the tutorial info. Please don't delete it I'm working on fixing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Onewayyouturn (talkcontribs) 06:57, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Would you like it restored to your personal sandbox so you can work on it unhindered? Might be a bit easier on you. :) Jmlk17 06:59, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

I know

Sorry man, but I nearly choked on my breakfast laughing after I read what ShieldDane said to me, something along the lines of "looks like you'll be waiting a long time 'cos this bird aint gonna fly", looks like that bird isn't constipated anymore! Joshuarooney2008 (talk) 08:38, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Your deletion of the International Study Group on Music Archaeology page

I see that you deleted the International Study Group on Music Archaeology page that I created. Although it contained little information at the time of its deletion, it was only around 5 minutes old at the time and I had only just started writing it. I saved the page in the form that I did because I had to restart my computer due to an automatic Windows update having taken place and did not want to lose what I had done. I was about to go back to the article and continue writing it but saw that it had already been deleted. Could you please put the article back up again and let me finish writing it. Myles Dyer Blade376 "Speedy Deletion" Query

May i ask why the page "Myles Dyer Blade376 was deleted? I understand that the code next to the deletion log Meant speedy Deletion, and i would like toknow why. Also, it says "Repost of Blade376". This is not true. I understand that in the past articles have been written about the subject of the article, however, how the version I created can be called a "repost" I don't know. I had taken the original Article (having been sent it by the original author), Stripped the information out of it, restructured the article, ensured it was sensical, added valid References, and made sure that copyright was not infringed, and that it complied to the Wikipedia standards. in a sense, this was an entirely new article, and almost certainly not eligible for speedy deletion. However, I understand that there may have been things i overlooked. If you could please send me details of why it was deleted, and I will try and rectify them immediately. Irejectreality (talk) 21:13, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

That exact reason... it was a recreation of Blade376, which in turn was an article on a non-notable internet "celebrity". Jmlk17 21:18, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Although it was based on Blade376 (the person, not the article), it was a completely different article. And by Non-notable internet "Celebrity"... there are many other Internet "celebrities" listed on this site which have no problems of this sort, like charlieissocoollike nalts and boh3m3. if this is the problem, then why do these articles still exist?

Please, note, I am fairly new to Wikipedia authoring (this was also my first article), so I may miss not understand certain aspects of the site. Irejectreality (talk) 21:41, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem... hope this isn't making you feel unwelcome! We have a policy, WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS that may help fill you in a bit. Jmlk17 22:36, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree... why is it that this user shouldn't have an article? There are a lot of these so-called "internet celebrities" and if we've got articles for some of them, I think Blade376 definitely ought to be included. Arzim (talk) 22:46, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Based upon what exactly? Jmlk17 22:47, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I understand that the articlewas speedy deleted, but is it possible to re-instate it, and nominate it for Deletion instead, so it has a chance to be reviewed?? I dunno how long it has ben since the original post was created, but in the last 3 months, curcumstances have definately changed, and through his following in the BBCUPstaged competition, and his work for charity, i believe that he is now notable.

Also, thank you for your guidance this evening, it will help me alot in future edits. Irejectreality (talk) 22:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem my friend. But instead of restoring it immediately, let's try a deletion review. :) Jmlk17 23:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, that sounds good, how is that done??? I'm more than willing for this courseof action to be taken, as it means that it can be setteled once and for all. Thanks Irejectreality (talk) 23:13, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Just head on over to WP:DRV and follow the instructions. :) Jmlk17 23:14, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I've submitted the discussion now :) hank you for your help so dfar. are you going to temporarily re-instate the article, so that it can be seen under review, or is that not necessary?? Irejectreality (talk) 23:33, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Not necessary right now. Thank you for the heads up as well! Just be a bit patient, and let the review go through, and we'll see what happens. :) Jmlk17 23:34, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, It looks as if they agree with your decision. No mater, they're other things I can contribute in the future, so I won't be too offended by this, as I can see itdoesn't adhere to notability guidelines, as i'd previously thought. Thank you for your help in this matter, and I'm satisfied that the right decision was made. Irejectreality (talk) 00:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Glad it was resolved rather quickly. Sorry for the outcome, but I am pleased you have found the positive side! Best wishes, and happy editing! :) Jmlk17 02:01, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Happy is a Yuppie Word (Switchfoot Song)

REQUEST: I would like to respectfully request reinstatement of the article. I don't understand why there was such a speedy deletion of this article. If it has been deleted before, this one has more merit, more citations, and therefore merits at least a discussion. Please give it a chance. It is a significant song of Switchfoot's, considering it had its own music video and was close to being released as the lead single for Nothing Is Sound. Joberooni (talk) 22:49, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

It was deleted per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Happy Is a Yuppie Word. Jmlk17 22:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but can we reinstate it? We can improve the article to make it meet regulations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joberooni (talkcontribs) 05:21, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
I would suggest a deletion review. Jmlk17 06:13, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Nirvana

I'd say no. There was a brief discussion about Associated Acts late last year (I believe it's in Archive 3 on the Talk page), but I don't know if it was enough for true consensus. The idea was basically that, given the number of bands that the band members (especially Grohl) have been a part of, we'd only include bands that had a direct connection with Nirvana - something more than just having a member of Nirvana. We came up with justifications for the five that are there now. If it was worth it, we could reopen the discussion to come up with some kind of true consensus. -- ChrisB (talk) 05:15, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

I just now saw that discussion, and I agree. I'd be more than happy to participate in a discussion, but Scream just doesn't have any direct connection with Nirvana, other than the fact that they gave up their drummer to them. Thanks for the quick reply. :) Jmlk17 05:19, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Nominations

My apologies as that was harshly worded. In looking through the noms I do see some that can go, but see some that extremely clearly meet the various notability guidelines. --JayHenry (talk) 05:28, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

No worries at all my friend. :) I do realize that there are probably some that seem quite notable (and probably are), but YouTube is admittedly not my best forte. I just am not entirely clear on how someone who makes one video for the site that becomes popular can get a page here, while we still try and keep WP:BIO and WP:BLP consistent and useful. Deletion of article Daniel Boey

Hello,

Why did you delete this article? I just spent three days dealing with three different admins and was approved by Discospinster to have this article online. I am sorry for my tone but I can't keep dealing with all these admins opinions. No article will ever satisfy everyone and it's not fair to have me keep defending my post just because someone decides they don't like it, or has no meaning to them etc. An Admins decision should be respected by all other admins otherwise what is the use? Can you please repost the article?

Thanks Succisa75 (talk) 16:44, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey there Succisa... I am terribly sorry for the issues! Let's see if we can't figure them out right away. Since there seems to be a bit of an "itchy deletion finger" with your article, would you like me to restore it to your personal sandbox? This will allow you to work on the article unimpeded and without the threat or tagging for deletion. I hope to help any way I can here! :) Jmlk17 21:17, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. That would be great but I don't know what else I can do to the article to make it more notable, valid etc. It seems every admin has an opinion as to what is valid or not. I just finished working with Discospinster two days ago by adding numerous sources. Once he checked the links he allowed the article to be moved to the respective name place. I'm completely lost. I just submitted these issues to the article deletion review board because of all this. If there is something I can do so this won't happen again I will do it. As you can see in my history on this article, I do try and work out any issue I can.

Please help :) Succisa75 (talk) 21:42, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Of course. Let's restore it to your personal sandbox for work here for now. We will wait for the outcome of the deletion review [[5]], and then take it from there. :) Jmlk17 02:04, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

BangBus

I'm not sure why the reference to Vulva Van was deleted from the Bang Bus page but the Back Seat Bangers reference was left alone. How is one spam and the other isn't? Further, I don't see how either is spam if they both discuss the cultural influence of the topic of the page itself? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.108.227.44 (talk) 21:23, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

The Vulva Van reference was nothing more than an external link. Jmlk17 21:28, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you deleted the article Main Aur Mrs Khanna as the movie was not in production at that time. However, the movie started filming on March 15. This is verified in this article: [6]. Is there a possibility of restoring it? Thanks. Ayush612 (talk) 03:31, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

RZA

Hello Jmlk17,

It appears you deleted several redirects related to RZA (musician). Cosprings moved RZA (hip hop artist) to RZA (musician), then apparently tagged the redirects for speedy deletion instead of fixing them; they didn't redirect to a nonexistent page and wouldn't have been deleted. Consequently, the page RZA was deleted as a broken redirect.

Before that, I requested a move at WP:RM, and suggested to preserve the disambiguation page RZA (see [7]).

Could you please fulfill the uncompleted request? If you've the time, please:

  • restore the page RZA (except the unnecessary redirects),
  • move the page RZA to RZA (disambiguation), to preserve the original disambiguation page,
  • move the page RZA (musician) to RZA,
  • and restore the redirects RZA (hip hop artist), RZA (rapper), and possibly the others that have been deleted.

According to the log, "04:56, March 13, 2008 Jmlk17 (Talk | contribs) deleted "Doctor steel" ‎ (db-redir)". I had cited two instances in which the artist had appeared on national television, including The Tonight Show, and kept the article short and factual. I'm rather upset that it was deleted without even a review. Coolgamer (talk) 19:18, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I think when you wrote this, you forgot the "Be polite" message. There's a link to it at the top of your Talk page.

Isn't there enough controversy around that article without adding rude comments into the mix? Wanderer57 (talk) 23:38, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

What's so rude about that comment? Jmlk17 23:44, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Assuming good faith, it was a serious comment by a person offended by Wikipedia's display of images. By labelling their comment as "junk", you may further offend the person (and others who feel the same way). Wanderer57 (talk) 01:46, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Understandable... but we have dozens of those hit-and-run IP addresses all the time saying the exact same thing. Jmlk17 02:17, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Cyber Bullying

Just a heads up: we have a student who is using a FaceBook page as a "source" to post bullying comments about another student in Fayetteville High School (Arkansas) . To complicate matters, the student being cyber bullied is already a current national news story because of similar bullying on FaceBook and ongoing psychical assaults in "real" life (this is why he is in the article in the first place). I think this should be shut down as quickly as possible...the bullied student is already in the processing of filing several lawsuits on this subject and I wouldn't want him to add Wikipedia to that list. Quenn (talk) 22:20, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

There's no chance of him suing Wikipedia. How exactly do you want us to "shut this down"? Jmlk17 23:34, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
My apologies, I worded that and my concerns badly. I just feel that using a newly created FaceBook page as a News source to justify posting anonymously quoted criticisms in a Wikipedia article is a bad precedent. It could easily be abused as a back door way circumvent neutral point of view and libel laws, as anyone can create such a page at any time and point to it as a "source". I felt it was best to approach a neutral administrator such as yourself in case this issue had been addressed before getting into a revert war. Quenn (talk) 02:05, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh right on! You had me a bit confused there for awhile. :) I've watchlisted the article, and will keep a strong eye on it. Jmlk17 04:28, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Your intro to this user

User_talk:Nicks_Garage14 I assume you must have been pretty mad at yourself after posting the welcome to this user when he went onto become a vandal. How does this work, whenever a new user is created does an admin automatically post the intro welcome on their page or do you go around and post it yourself? I always wondered so i apologise if you didn't specifically pick this user. Is it done by a bot or something? Its funny because when i first started on wikipedia, i didn't get a welcome message from anyone. I also noticed that no one can edit your user page. How does this come about? Only if ur an admin can you protect pages and therefore only admins can edit the pages. Can you help me out? Im just curious thats allRoadrunnerz45 (talk) 05:37, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Not really worried about it at all... vandals come and go, and it's not skin off my back. I don't recall why I added a welcome message to that particular user's page, but oh well. As for my user page's protection, I did so after numerous vandalisms to it months ago, and just figure I'd avoid the whole issue and keep it protected. Jmlk17 23:05, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Fitna

Hi Jmlk,

There was a talk at UC Berkeley a few months ago titled "Islam, Global Politics, and U.S. Foreign Policy". The talk is now available at the broadcast page at the UCB's homepage. Here is the direct link: http://webcast.berkeley.edu/stream.php?type=real&webcastid=21123

Maybe you find this more interesting. I'd like to also get your opinion on the coup initiated by the U.S. and British government against one of the Iranian heros, Mosadegh, who nationalized Iranian oil industry (here is the link Mosadegh#U.S._and_other_countries). Also, if one follows the news, for every now and then, there is an airplane crash in Iran. Each time hundreds of civilians get killed (see for example Iranian_Air_Force_C-130_crash_in_Tehran#Iranian_aircraft_disasters). The U.S. government does not allow Iran to update its passenger airplane (not military but passenger). Any company who dares to sell pieces or whole passenger plane to Iran will be boycotted from the U.S. government. One can of course come up with many of these and pile them up together to advance a certain view you know. It is virtually possible to make a case for anything by cherry picking.--Be happy!! (talk) 07:26, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Or what about Sanctions_against_Iranian_scientists. According to this, for example Iranian students can not publish paper in IEEE whatever the topic of the paper may be: theoretical, practical and on any topic. Their scientific paper will be rejected without any review. --Be happy!! (talk) 07:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Hey there Aminz! Glad I checked my messages before I went to bed. I have found myself much more interested with Islam and it's general structure and history recently. I took a class about 18 months ago, and it's been building ever since. I am a bit short on time the next few days, but I will definitely take a look at those links. Also, if you have any other recommendations on a different side of the issue (as opposed to Fitna), I would love to hear them! I respect you highly, and would certainly enjoy what you recommend. Feel free to let me know here, or email me anytime my friend. Jmlk17 07:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Dear Jmlk,
Thank you for your kind words. The first talk is by Ira Lapidus, the dean of middle eastern studies at Berkeley, explains the terrorism issue. The second scholar talks about the global jihad and the third is specifically about Iran. I think the first and second are most relevant to Fitna video. The other links I mentioned are not directly relevant to the "Fitna" article. Thank you very much again for your kind words! --Be happy!! (talk) 07:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Virtual-OS

"21:08, 17 March 2008 Jmlk17 (Talk | contribs) deleted "Virtual-OS" ‎ (Expired PROD, concern was: site closed, distribution halted, article is a PR outlet per developer announcement. see talk page. Virtual OS page was deleted 3 times.)"

Warning/Caution: Please pay attention to the hyphens, otherwise the following may be very confusing. :)

As far as I know Virtual-OS is still active, albeit the 2008 server version does seem delayed. I think that was why the article hadn't been updated with the newest info yet; the talk page said something to the effect that it would be updated once they had published the Vixen Server press release. ( I should know, I've been waiting for it! :)

The Virtual-OS article refers to the Canadian provincially backed Web OS and pertaining published events and is not related to the wave of European "Virtual OS" 'spam/adverts' which I believe you've mistakenly correlated.

The Canadian "Virtual-OS" (virtual-os.com) is still online with an active support forum and a closed beta test of the 2008 Vixen Server for Twine users.

On the other hand, the European Sin Com's "Virtual OS" (virtualos.net) is indeed "site closed, distribution halted" (see google cache for actual site content prior to closure).

These are two separate entities that are not related... other than by similar names, which was a point of public debate and perhaps why Sin Com's "Virtual OS" is no longer around (just a guess).

If I recall correctly, there has only ever been a single deletion review for "Virtual-OS" last year and it was overturned and dually noted in the articles change history, as well as the original deletion review debate and the article's talk page. A clean-up of the article was recommended, and the developers involvement (POV/bias) was addressed but HAD NOT deemed inappropriate or gross misconduct. The article had never been deleted prior to the current instance.

Now even if we pretend the Canadian government had cut funding on the project and the developer was no longer planning on releasing Vixen in mid stream, which seems pretty unlikely and definitely undocumented, I don't see why the article should be deleted as it was the center of quite a bit of publicity and mainstream events relating to decentralized computing and information privacy.

Anyways.. sorry to beat around the bush the point is:

The deletion description you gave is inaccurate and creates a false sense that 1) the project is closed, 2) that development and distribution of the application has ceased, and 3) the article may have been viewed as some type of insignificant and repetitively deleted spam.

It seems really odd to me.. I think you most likely got mixed up between "Virtual-OS" and "Virtual OS" but why wasn't there at least a deletion review for this article? I think the confusion would have been quickly resolved otherwise.

I don't know.. I just can't wait until us Non-Twine users can try out the new version, the deletion notice was shocking to say the least, I'm just glad it's not true.

Thank you for your time and consideration. 99.229.222.154 (talk) 06:24, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

A deletion review may be in order. WP:DRV. Jmlk17 06:45, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Well of course, specially if you don't think the article should be reinstated- although I don't exactly understand what the issue is at this point. "If an article was deleted as a result of a proposed deletion ("prod"), any administrator should normally restore it on your request". Personally I think if you believed there was a reason for concern the article should have been nominated for a review prior to deletion to avoid the mess of orphaned links and corresponding automated delinking by bots.

It's unlikely as I've been following it pretty close, but I could clearly be wrong/misinformed. If you have a published report that this indeed happened PLEASE point me to it so I can stop holding my breath.. even then shouldn't the information you're suggesting have been added to the article, not grounds for deletion (i.e. WebOS)? 99.229.222.154 (talk) 07:06, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, it was tagged for deletion and left uncontested for five days per WP:PROD, so I would say go for the deletion review. Jmlk17 07:09, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure we're on the same page? The google cache of the article only goes up to Feb. 23 but it doesn't have a prod there. And I think I checked the page for any new information sometime between 2 and 3 weeks ago.. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed something to the effect of "PROD: Virtual-OS has closed" at the top. Even in the deletion notice above you refer to "Virtual OS" not "Virtual-OS".

As I mention Sin Com's Virtual OS was an different application and was deleted based on lack of notability, or at least lack of presentation of supporting references:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=Virtual_OS

Where as Virtual-OS is/was? a verifiable government sanctioned project.

I guess I could email the developer about the issue and let them know that they need to setup a review.. that is if they're still there, you have me doubting now, really are your claims founded or based on assumption? If it's true could you please give me a link so I can check out the details. Otherwise could you please reinstate the article (perhaps with a proper AfD reason if you think there is indeed an issue that needs to be reviewed), as the current deletion description is VERY misleading. 99.229.222.154 (talk) 07:29, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Man, very confusing lol. Yeah, I think this needs an AfD... I'll dig through the log and find it. :) Jmlk17 07:30, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

After reading tWP:DRV it is clear that this article should have never been PROD in the first place:

Articles that:

   * Have previously been proposed for deletion
   * Have previously been undeleted
   * Have been discussed on AfD or MfD

are not candidates for {{prod}}.

Sorry my wiki regulations skills are not ninja like- or I would have already known that.

The article had been previously nominated for deletion and it was overturned.

Is that a solid case for reinstating it? ^.^

P.S. - I'm really not trying to be a pain.. it's just wikipedia seems to have made more information about this technology public than the developers own site, so I'm kind of depending on the wikis accuracy as an authority. The idea that they've taken their ball and went home is nothing less than shocking.

99.229.222.154 (talk) 07:44, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Not a pain at all buddy... part of being an admin ya know? :) I restored the article, and put it up for AfD. Unfortunately, I am up way later than I should be, and have work early tomorrow, so I must be heading to bed. Feel free to email me as well. :) Jmlk17 07:49, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Awesome, thank you! Sleep well. I'm off to see what I can google about it. 99.229.222.154 (talk) 07:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to bug you again, but can you undelete the talk page too so I can see if there's any news to follow up on? The closure Prod references the talk page.. but the talk page is MIA . Thanks again. 99.229.222.154 (talk) 08:00, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

'd ==Great Disappointment==

Hi, I was wondering if you could weigh in with your comments at the Great Disappointment article. User:JCrocombe is constantly removing a paragraph about Baha'i views on the subject. The paragraph is completely referenced with multiple sources showing that Baha'is refer to Miller's prophecies and the specifically the Great Disappointment, and believe that there was no disappointment. One paragraph easily meets WP:UNDUE with the size of the Baha'i Faith (6 million) is in the same ball-park as the size of the Seventh Day Adventists (25 million) and Jehoveh Witnesses (6 million) who have a view about that event. The section looks good and seems relevant in my opinion. I notice that even though it has been discussed on JCrocombe's talk page, they still are removing it. Perhaps a next step would be in order, including WP:ANI, WP:RFPP, etc. Jmlk17 20:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to see some evidence that you actually understand the issues involved before you make such pronouncements. What exactly are your qualifications to make such a pronouncement? "In your opinion". Why does your opinion carry any more weight than anyone else's? Isn't that opposing the whole point of Wikipedia? JCrocombe (talk) 15:24, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, ever hear of an "outside opinion"? Jmlk17 22:58, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

The new standings give people a visual reference to how each team is doing, whether they are in the playoffs or not, if they have clinched their division, if they can clinch the division, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.173.247.7 (talk) 22:13, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

They're under their respective pages such as {{2007-08 NHL Atlantic Division standings}}. Jmlk17 23:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I think it is just the red. What color should we use?

Hmmm... I think the colors from the 2006-07 NHL season look pretty soft on the eyes. :) Jmlk17 00:02, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

While you were thinking about that, I found a lighter red. Maybe once the season ends, and there are no teams "on the bubble" in terms of the playoff picture, we can use the old colors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Natedawg (talkcontribs) 00:15, 2 April 2008 (UTC) When I looked back at last year's standings, the colors are about the same as now, with the one change I just made on this year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Natedawg (talkcontribs) 00:18, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Why do you consider this post as vandalism. It is a legitimate drink that is widely popular. Further, as it is coming back into vogue with younger people I think the cautions contained in the article were of importance. List of companies in wausau

I would like to know why you just deleted the page when i put a challenge to the authenticity of the page. i put my reasons under the discussion page. this is based off of houston's list of companies as well, which when I under the user name Urban909 first help start had a shorter list than that. i am going to create it again, if you have a problem with that discuss it first, don't just delete it. you know just as well as i that when there is a challenge placed, it needs to be discussed. then if there still is disagreement we will find a solution that we can agree on. IAH777 —Preceding comment was added at 13:26, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

i really don't know how to make this clearer. DON'T ERASE A PAGE WITHOUT PROPER DISCUSSION FIRST JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T BELIEVE IT SUBSTANTIAL ENOUGH. if you think this, go to houston's page and do the same thing and see what reaction would follow. if this continues, i have to consider this an edit war and report it. own up and discuss, don't just erase. IAH777 —Preceding comment was added at 13:18, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Lack of notability. Houston is a lot different than Wausau. Jmlk17 23:05, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
    • as constructive feedback, maybe you should take your own advice on assuming good faith. and as a administrator you should know the proper way in which to conduct yourself. again, constructive feedback. i will list this for you, just so it's clear for you. for me, i would like to know what boundries i can and cannot cross.

Administrator conduct

Administrators, like all users, are not perfect beings. However in general they are expected to act as role models within the community, and a good general standard of civility, fairness, and general conduct both to users and in content matters, is expected.[8] [9] [10] When acting as administrators, they are also expected to be fair, exercise good judgment, and give explanations and be communicative as necessary.

Administrators who seriously, or repeatedly, act in a problematic manner or have lost the trust or confidence of the community may be sanctioned or have their access removed. In the past, this has happened or been suggested for:

  1. Misuse of tools (deletion, protection, blocking in clearly improper circumstances)
  2. Breach of basic policies (attacks, biting/civility, edit warring, privacy, etc)
  3. Repeated/consistent poor judgment
  4. Fighting with the tools (known as "wheel warring"). Summary: With very few exceptions, as soon as an action using tools is reversed by another administrator, it should not be reinstated by the original user or any admin, no matter how good the intention may be, without consensus. But see also exceptions below.
  5. Failure to communicate[11] - this can be either to users (eg lack of suitable warnings or explanations of actions), or to concerns of the community (especially when explanations or other serious comments are sought).
  6. 'Bad faith' adminship (sock puppetry, good hand/bad hand, gross breach of trust[12], etc)
  7. Conduct elsewhere incompatible with adminship (off site attacking, etc)

IAH777

Oh I know the guidelines etc. I just don't see how I'm "abusing the tools". Jmlk17 01:23, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
i'm glad you have them memorized. there is a difference, however, between person that can simply memorize and a person that can memorize and understand. IAH777 —Preceding comment was added at 11:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Revert edit, Clutter

Numerous benzodiazepine articles have now been cluttered with references to pubmed abstracts and anecdotal, spurious, unrelated, loosely associated reports, which are from some peer reviewed journals. Frequently the reference does not say what the editor says. Frequently the topic of the reference is unrelated and only has "benzodiazepine" as a keyword. I urge to limit citations to agreed facts, this is a standard exceeding criteria for inclusions in peer reviewed journals. In the particular case I have removed "neurotoxic" from the article. Benzodiazepines are mentioned "together with" "neurotoxicity" in the reference, however, neurotoxicity would lead to a denial of FDA registration. These are reports about mice/rat/brainslice experiments. If you insist on the inclusion of reliable sources, then please take care that more than a pubmed search is used as a reference. The removal of such disputed facts and references may happen without a reference. I cannot find a reference to the contrary for every obscure claim, before I remove it. Thank you for acknowledging this as a good faith edit. For more please look at the discussion on chlordiazepoxide, temazepam, diazepam, nitrazepam, clobazam, clonazepam. These all contain a uniform replica of the same questionable facts by the same editors. 70.137.178.160 (talk) 03:29, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Ambulance Service of Manchester

The Ambulance Service of Manchester posting was, as you indicated, reposted after an initial deletion. However, I did a fair amount of research in order to add content that would make the entry noteworthy. The entry I'm refering to was a section called "ASM and Antitrust Legislation". I believe that the court case relating to the company, as well as the citations used by other states on that particular case, makes it noteworthy. It was the precursor to the drastic revamping of the emergency medical system in Connecticut. Please consider restoring the entry, and provide feedback at your convenience. Thank you! 76.230.152.115 (talk) 04:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

How exactly do they pass notability? Jmlk17 05:17, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
If you had a sandbox, I'd restore it there. But beyond that I suggest WP:DRV. Jmlk17 00:05, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

- The antitrust litigation that the ambulance company went through set a precendent for Connecticut. Before that case, multiple ambulance companies would respond to calls, due to the lack of rules regarding emergency response. Simply put, the ambulance service that put the patient on the stretcher first were the ones who got paid, so it was not uncommon for arguments (or in some cases physical altercations) between ambulance services on emergency scenes. The town of East Hartford was the first town in CT to only allow one ambulance company (the Ambulance Service of Manchester) to respond to all calls within its town borders, which was promptly challenged by a competing company as a violation of antitrust laws.

The supreme court upheld the ruling that it was acceptable for a town to have only one ambulance company. This was the precurser to the P.S.A (primary service area) being established in CT, which is still in use today.

This case has also been used in other states, which was referenced in my wikipedia article.

I would like to request a temporary restoration of the article, in order for a new discussion to take place. I would also like your feedback at your convenience. Thank you! 76.230.152.115 (talk) 14:06, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

How does it pass WP:NOTABILITY? Jmlk17 02:36, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

The Combat Hapkido entry that was deleted passes WP:NOTABILITY with "Significant coverage" as listed in Wikipedia's Definition of WP:NOTABILITY. Combat Hapkido is an internationally recognized Martial Art that has thousands of Students World Wide. Many Magazine articles have been written about Combat Hapkido explaining its Self-Defense training and strategies. Combat Hapkido has also been taken to Afghanistan to assist in training American and Coalition Forces, which has been reported in Military Magazines. Along with Video Sources recording Combat Hapkido training, there is much independent sources that can be used to update the Wikipedia entry for Combat Hapkido and provide citations. If this entry is restored I can work on updating these citations. Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MagnusRBHunter (talkcontribs) 15:38, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
