Chromosome 1 is the longest human chromosome at 245,203,898 base pairs (bp) according to the sequence^[1]. And the distance between base pairs along the sugar-phosphate backbone of DNA is about 0.33 nanometers (nm). Thus the total length

$= \frac{0.33\mathrm{nm}}{\mathrm{bp}} \times 0.25 \times 10^9 \mathrm{bp} \times \frac{\mathrm{m}}{10^9 \mathrm{nm}} = 0.08 \mathrm{m}$

So the largest human chromosome is almost almost ten centimeters in length!
