Jennifer Morla

Jennifer Morla (born 1955 in Manhattan, New York, USA) is an American graphic designer and artist based San Francisco, California.
Ms. Morla studied conceptual art at Hartford Art School, University of Hartford and received her BFA in Graphic Design from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Massachusetts. She is currently President and Creative Director of Morla Design, San Francisco, and Chief Creative Officer of Design Within Reach.
She has been honored nationally and internationally for her ability to pair wit and elegance on everything from annual reports to retail environments. With numerous awards for excellence in graphic design, her work has been recognized as one of the Fifteen Masters of Design by HOW Magazine. Her work has been published extensively, including being one of the forty designers showcased in US Design: 1975-2000. She has been featured in numerous national and international magazines such as Graphis, Communication Arts, IDEA (Japan), Linea Graphica (Italy), A Diseño (Mexico) and Novum (Germany). Her work has been displayed at the Grand Palais in Paris, The Brandenburg Art Gallery in Berlin, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, the Denver Art Museum and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington D.C. Her work is also part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Denver Art Museum and the Library of Congress. Ms. Morla has also had solo exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and DDD Gallery in Japan and has twice been the recipient of the Marget Larsen Award for Designer of the Year.
Ms. Morla served on the National Board of Directors for American Institute of Graphic Arts AIGA, was past president of AIGA San Francisco Chapter and is currently on the Accessions Board for Architecture and Design at San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art. Since 1993 she has taught Senior Graphic Design Thesis at California College of the Arts, she lectures internationally and is a selected member of The Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).
As an artist, Ms. Morla’s large scale encaustic paintings and multi-ton steel sculpture are shown at Kay Kimpton Gallery in San Francisco. In 1984, she formed Morla Design a multi-faceted design firm offering a broad range of creative services encompassing corporate identity, print collateral, environmental design, book design, packaging, web and multimedia design. Clients include The New York Times, Levi Strauss & Co., Apple Computer, Williams-Sonoma, Wells Fargo Bank, Chronicle Books and Luna Textiles.
In 1984, she formed Morla Design a multi-faceted design firm offering a broad range of creative services encompassing corporate identity, print collateral, environmental design, book design, packaging, web and multimedia design. In 2005, Ms. Morla shifted her client base at Morla Design to accommodate her new role at Design Within Reach. Morla Design continues to specialize in designing unique solutions for non-profit arts organizations and educational institutions.
