[edit] User Ratings

I thought wikiproject films was moving away from user ratings in favor of professional reviews. ColdFusion650 15:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

There are no user ratings on here.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 15:49, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
I thought Rotten Tomatoes was a user ratings website. ColdFusion650 15:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
LOL, no. Well, it has "user ratings" but those 30+ reviews are from professional critics. Same as Yahoo and Metacritic. There are only 4 reviews for the Cream of the Crop, so I can't use that column, but for some reason it's corrupting the table when I remove it...I might have to create a new one.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 15:52, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
The list indicators box is overlayed on top of the table in Gecko. Mediawiki must use some IE specific code, cause it works fine there. ColdFusion650 15:55, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Huh? I don't know what that means, but I know that when I remove the CotC stuff, all the information cycles around so the film title is next to Metacritic, the rest is all jumbled.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 15:57, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Look at the page using a Gecko based browser, Firefox, Netscape, Flock, etc. Instead of the List Indicators blockquote box above the ratings table, it's laid on top of it. If you don't have a Gecko browser handy, I'll post a screenshot. ColdFusion650 15:59, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

How's it now?  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:02, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Looks good now. It used to look like this on Firefox. Since Internet Explorer renders a lot of things incorrectly, some sites code to make it look right on IE, but that means they use non-standards compliant code, and then it breaks it on all other browsers. I thought Wikimedia was above that, but I guess not. ColdFusion650 16:07, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I jumped on firefox too see what was going on (I was the IP that fixed it). I generally use IE so I don't notice FF or other browser problems. Though, I notice that FF and others will correct the large gap that images create when they are placed in a spot that puts them under an infobox or something, but IE won't do that...so you end up with a huge gap in the middle of the text.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
The lightgrey vs lightgray color thing is another IE quirk. IE uses lightgrey (British spelling of grey). The W3C International CSS standard uses lightgray (American spelling of gray). I checked it on the W3C CSS validation service. If you use the correct spelling of gray, IE goes haywire. Another instance where correct coding messes up IE's nonstandard coding. ColdFusion650 16:25, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
So, what are you seeing? I see a dark grey shade (which is what I want to see, based on the indicator box). If it's "lightgrey" or "gray" (the literal color) then it just blends in with everything else. If I put "darkgrey" then it doesn't show up on IE. But, ..lol... if I put "darkgray" then it shows up on both IE and FF. The problem with that color is that it doesn't show the column divider.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:29, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
I replaced it with #D3D3D3, which is the hexadecimal color value for IE's rendering of lightgrey. This ensures that it shows up the same everywhere. ColdFusion650 16:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Awesome. I'm going to pull out an infobox for the page, and then I'm probably going to call it quits for this article for a bit. I'll see if I can help you find some sources for Indiana Jones...do you still have that DVD box image that was removed? Cause that would work for the infobox I believe.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:34, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

here ColdFusion650 16:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I got the box in. It nees a lead to take up some space since the box goes down to the BO info. It's filled with the film information, because in my opinion, they are the reason the franchise extends beyond film. Had they been terrible films this would simply be called "film series". Then again, there was that Tremors show. Ok, now I need a break for a bit.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:56, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggest character list

I propose that all or most of the characters be merged into one Character page.--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 14:33, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

That'd be a good idea for characters who only appeared in one film. We could redirect Toht, Dietrich, Willie, Short Round, Mola Ram, Elsa, Donovan, Mutt, Mac, Spalko and the characters Pat Roach played there. Indy, Marion, Belloq, Senior, Lao Che, Sallah and Brody have made numerous appearances, including the books, so they can have their own articles. Alientraveller (talk) 11:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

For the record: Indiana Jones characters. Alientraveller (talk) 20:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Merge proposal

I suggest merging List of Indiana Jones appearances. Make sense to take two fair articles and make them into something better, and with a non-fictional perspective too. Alientraveller (talk) 11:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

The list article would have to be severely reworked. Pasting in a huge list of books, comics, and video games would not be good. ColdFusion650 (talk) 15:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Well pasting in here and cleaning it up will be easier. Alientraveller (talk) 14:28, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Video games

There's quite a few video games under this franchise, as seen at Category:Indiana Jones games. Any thoughts about including it in this section? Not sure if there are overall statistics for the games (as articles from video game magazines are out of my league). However, GameRankings.com is a Rotten Tomatoes-like website for video games. Type "indiana jones", and you can see what games have been reviewed or not. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 16:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I guess it'll be good cites for this article when I implement the games. Alientraveller (talk) 16:41, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Citations for use

The movie's out in May, so these are wide-ranging news articles. I'll put them here as there's no Indy WikiProject (yet).

[edit] Carnival Ride

Isn't the Raiders carnival ride also tied into the series? MMetro (talk) 02:45, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Graphic Novels listed are reprints of Young Indy comics

I think there should be some note that the graphic novels listed here are actually reprints of the comic "The Young Indiana Jones Adventures" so there isn't confusion. They are listed in the Indiana Jones comic books article, FYI. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.231.106.82 (talk) 10:35, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
