[edit] Tape scene:
Jim goes up the stairs of a building and walks towards the entry of the "City Clerks". Inside the office (studio set shots), Jim comes closer to unlock a glass bookcase and searches for a reel. Jim plays the roll of film in a microfilm reader.
[edit] Summary:
To cancel King Said's future peace treaty with the neighbouring Republic of Agir, General Zek from the Kingdom of Karak is on the verge of triggering a war by creating an assassination attempt against the Government House of his country thanks to explosives maker Ismir Najiid and saboteur Aristo Skora. To avoid this catastrophe, the IMF, with the help of General Tamaar, manipulates this fanatical trio with a phony conspiracy created by their enemy: Colonel Hakim.
[edit] Cast and details:
General Zek - his aide Major Abdul-al-Tarek - his partner munitions manufacturer Ismir Najiid, owner of Najiid Ltd (Explosives and Propellants) and his mercenary terrorist Aristo Skora, the peacemaker King Said are played by Titos Vandis, Peter Coe, Sandor Szabo, Mark Lenard and Joe E. Tata--the warmongers trio falls in the IMF's trap and use their "bait" truck and the phony Colonel Hakim for their political purpose. Featuring guest IMFer General Tamaar (Dick Latessa).
Jim poses as reporter Jack Rogers from Trans Cable News Service along with photographer Willy; Jim puts an earphone plugin on to listen to Rollin/Skora and Major Abdul and then pours some acid in the broadcast device to neutralize General Zek's transmission.
Rollin poses as an armed military, abducts Skora out of his car, drugs him, disguises him as Colonel Hakim to make believe he is dead. Rollin disguises as the "mysterious" Agirian nitro terrorist Colonel Hakim (see his white wig, cheap fake nose, moustache and sunglasses) and Karakian saboteur Aristo Skora and also imitates the voice of Major Abdul (thanks to a filter connected to the handset) to misinform General Zek about the destruction of the Government House (via a sfx recording); later (off camera), Rollin-as-Skora ties in Skora-as-Hakim to the wheel of the terrorist truck.
Cinnamon poses as Foreign Correspondent Mademoiselle Adrienne Duvray from "La Presse Océanique" and also known as the mistress of the infamous Colonel Hakim; she's phoned by Willy to go to the warehouse, be caught in the act of joining Colonel Hakim, be arrested by General Zek and interrogated by Rollin-as-Skora.
Barney poses as Systems analyst Ray Harper from Compucorp (ID n° 53418) --he actually does his engineer job like in his real life--as in "Doomsday", Barney drives a car (here, a Citroen's DS) to enter the foe's building; he pretends to increase Najiid's production in his factory in order to help Rollin's nitro robbery by programming a computer (he uses codes books and computer reels) to open the explosives vault and turn the sentinelles' alarm off. Barney knocks unconscious in the rear Major Abdul so that he operates the radio remote control.
Willy poses as a military to threaten with a gun and abduct Skora in his own car and as a Trans Cable News Service photographer in order to shoot and paralyze Najiid with his camera that launches a mini drugged dart.
As in the season 2 "The Condemned", Barney drives a vehicle (a truck) by radio remote control. The Government House location is already used in "The Exchange". This episode is filled with a series of wristwatches inserts during the stealing of the nitro and leaking brakes fluid's inserts during the last two Acts. Two footages from "Memory" are recycled to show sentries guarding the Najiid Ltd building.
[edit] Review:
A war in the Middle East type of plot between "The Slave" (see the national setting and a young royal figure betrays by his high staff) and "The Elixir" (see how the IMF manipulates the mass media: the jammed TV set of General Zek, the use of recorded sound effects to simulate the bombing and the internal military channel activated by General Zek to announce the official death of King Said to the country), that is a bit laborious and stretches too much when it comes to Rollin's 10 minutes (from 07:55 to 08:05 P.M.) nitro stealing scene: the flat battery of his fork-lift truck and the stop at every humpback bridges owing to three bottles of unsteady nitro. Not bad, not fabulous but could have been tighter. The only suspenseful scenes lie in the end: the phony assassination attempt told by Rollin and the kamikaze truck that is out of control because of the breaking of the brake fluid (by the sentinelle) --hopefully, Barney exploits the shifting gear. The title of the episode refers to Colonel Hakim's favourite weapon: nitroglycerine. I like Skora doing the peel-off in front of the government's officials.
[edit] Stock music:
• "The Cardinal" (Skora stops his car at the Government House when Willy points a gun at him; Rollin uplifts the nitro's container) • "The Exchange" • "The Slave" (Willy delivers Rollin-as-Hakim near the electrified fence of Najiid Ltd) • "Live Bait" (waiting Rollin knocks a sentry down near the closed ammo depot; Rollin stores three bottles of nitro in the case) • "Operation Rogosh" (Rollin returns to Willy's truck with the three bottles of nitroglycerine), • "Pilot" (chase theme: the sentry launches the alert, the sentinelle chases the intruders and shot the truck's brake fluid of Willy; paralyzed Najiid is scared of the nitro truck; Rollin ends his catastrophe report to General Zek) • "The Play" (the sentries are alerted) • "The Bunker" (a spy phones to warn Zek about Cinnamon going to Hakim's warehouse) • "The Mercenaries" (Rollin-as-Skora drives the nitro truck and parks it away from the Government House) • "The Mind of Stefan Miklos" • "The Contender" (Skora disguised as Hakim removes his mask in front of King Said and General Tamaar) • "Trek" (the running and brakeless truck that comes straight to the Government House)
