Igor Petrovich Semshov (Russian: Игорь Петрович Семшов) (born April 6, 1978) is regarded as one of the best midfield players in Russian Premier League and at the same time as an unlucky international player.
It would seem he had many reasons for successful start: born in largest Russian city, learnt to play by the personal coach – his own father, graduated from the soccer academy of UEFA Cup Winner - CSKA Moscow. However the frail constitution warded off Russian soccer grands. Semshov could not establish himself as a first-team player at CSKA Moscow and he left the club to join Torpedo Moscow in 1998. The new team distrusted him firstly: his boyish appearance and attitude were too suspect. The most famous fact about young Semshov was a five-match suspension following a referee kick. New Semshov appeared in 2001 when he became a father: professionalism instead of slipshodness, passion instead of frenzy. The might shortage was compensated with extraordinary technique and indefatigable energy. He was soon selected to play for the Russian international at the 2002 World Cup, but he didn’t manage to help disappointing Russian team in unusual position of left midfielder. He continued to play well for Torpedo Moscow and became a key player and a brightest star of his club. Igor was declared "the Best Torpedo Moscow Player of the Year" four times (2001, 2002,2003,2005). As for international he was not so successful there: he took a part at EURO 2004, but the tournament was a disappointment for him again. Russia lost out at the first round and Semshov played in the last match only, which was indecisive absolutely. After season 2005 Igor Semshov signed a three-year contract with Dynamo Moscow , however he will be put on the transfer market in 2008 after a failure to reach an agreement about his contract renewal.
