[edit] Song information
The single was made available on most download services on July 19, 2006 and was released as a CD single on September 4.
It became the band's first UK Number 1 single and topped the charts for four consecutive weeks. It ended the year as the UK's fourth best selling single of the year.[1]
The song's tempo, arrangement, use of falsetto vocals, and subject matter have been compared by reviewers in The Guardian and The Sun newspapers to Leo Sayer's 1976 hit "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing".
The song was used as accompaniment to a dance number performed by the houseguests on day 20 of Celebrity Big Brother 2007 (UK).
One of the band members mentioned in a UK radio interview that the song is about staying in at home at night instead of going out[citation needed].
Graeme Garden, in December 2006, had to sing along to this song in the round Pick-up Song on BBC Radio 4 radio comedy show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. Graeme is the father of John "JJ" Garden, who is the live keyboardist for the band, and also contributes to certain album tracks as a writer and/or performer. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Graeme was able to keep time with the track perfectly.
The song was in the UK Singles Chart for 27 weeks.
The German video-clip show MyVideo Show uses the song as its theme.
It was performed live at the BRIT Awards 2007.
The song has a segment after the first chorus that was composed on the Commodore 64 using the on board SID sound chip in the computer.
The song has also been covered by "Rockgrass" band Hayseed Dixie. The band covers rock/pop songs using a bluegrass style. Don't feel like Dancin' was on their 2007 album Weapons of Grass Destruction.
[edit] Music Video
The Video uses a combination of stop/start technology and background/foreground illusions, there are also animated talking heads of the various band members and at the beginning and end, a person goes to an advertised poster with the band member's heads on it, moving.
The Video takes place on this poster.
Chester McKee, a contestant on I'd Do Anything appears at the start of the video.
