Hubertus "Huub" Jozef Margaretha Stevens (born November 29, 1953 in Sittard) is a Dutch football manager and former defender. While active, he played for Fortuna Sittard and PSV Eindhoven. During his time at PSV he earned 18 caps for the Netherlands (one goal).
Stevens began his coaching career in 1993 with Roda JC from Kerkrade. From October 1996 to June 2002 Stevens coached German team Schalke 04, with who he won the UEFA Cup in 1997 and the DFB-Pokal in 2001 and 2002. Afterwards, he was appointed head coach of Hertha BSC Berlin, but he was sacked on December 4, 2003 because of lack of success. Thereafter he was hired by 1. FC Köln, which he coached from June 14, 2004 to May 22, 2005. In May 2005 Stevens returned to the Netherlands and Roda JC.
On February 2, 2007, he returned to the German Bundesliga, becoming the new coach at Hamburger SV replacing Thomas Doll, who had been sacked due to lack of success. By the time Stevens took over, the club was in the relegation zone. Results improved quite dramatically.
Stevens has recently been confirmed to take over the vacancy at PSV Eindhoven after his HSV contract expires at the end of the 2007-2008 season. It has been reported he has signed a two year contract with the Eindhoven club, a club he holds very dearly to his heart.[1] Steven's returning to his home country is also a way for him to spend more time with his wife, who has long suffered from a chronic abdominal condition.[2]
