[edit] notability

I have nothing to do with this band, but I thought the combination of their international tour and notable band members would make them notable.

  • This band has gone on an international concert tour (currently), and a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country, reported in notable and verifiable sources. Sources include Pitchfork Media and the Raleigh-Durham Independent Weekly. (cited in article)
  • this band is comprised of members of other notable bands including King Cobb Steelie, By Divine Right and Blue Rodeo. They have supported Brooklyn rapper Beans.
  • this band is on a label that has been producing albums since 1994.
  • this band has hit top ten on campus charts in Canada [1] "Top 50 Albums from Campus/Commmunity Radio Airplay" March 2006
  • this band has played with Mars Volta, Flaming Lips, Blonde Redhead, Battles, Blackalicious, Atmosphere and also toured with Beans, Wolf Parade and Metric
  • this band was one of "10 finalists ... for the $3,000 Galaxie Rising Stars Award Of The CBC that will be presented as part of Canadian Music Week's March 1 Indie Awards" [2]
  • I can't do anything about the name, but they are a real band with real credentials that meet the letter of notability.

"International tour" means that they went from one country to another in persuit of their business (in their case musical performing). I've been abroad on business too. Does that make me worthy of a WP article? jmd
The only reason I mention international tour is because it's in WP:MUSIC Jessamyn (talk) 02:03, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] speedy?

If folks decide they're nn, I'll accept that, but the WP:MUSIC page specifically says "Important note: Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion." so why is this speedied instead of going through the normal AFD process? Jessamyn (talk) 02:07, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't see this as a speedy, I removed the tag. Having membership from other significant bands is probably enough to satisfy WP:MUSIC, but even if people disagree on that, there's surely enough here to warrant giving these guys a full discussion at Afd, if we must. I have to say, if this were Afd'd right now today, I'd say keep. The speedy tag was added when the article was very new and didn't have as much info. No harm no foul. [edit] Cleanup needed

This article looks far too much like a press release. The only tangible information is in the opening paragraph. Everything after that reads much like an advertisement. If there is nothing to say about the band except who they are and the kind of music they play, then the article should be much shorter than it is. Padding a Wikipedia article with reviews is merely a bid to make a something seem much more popular/prominent/important/what have you than it really is.

Wikipedia is not a venue for publicity.

I removed the subjective material and advert tag; much of it seems to have been added to establish notability when the article was nominated for deletion. Strobilus (talk) 22:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
