Hakan Yakın (born February 22, 1977 in Basel) is a Swiss-Turkish football player. Hakan plays in the Swiss Super League with BSC Young Boys since June 2005.[1] Although he is erratic, his play-making, tricky skills, vision and dead ball expertise make him a match winner and a Switzerland regular.
His career has been overshadowed by some trouble regarding his club transfers, as his engagements outside Switzerland (Paris Saint-Germain FC[2][3], VfB Stuttgart[4] and Galatasaray[5]) were not accompanied by luck. Nonetheless he has been one of the best and most important Swiss football players for almost 10 years.
His last name Yakin is originated from the Arabic word Yakin, which means closeness. Also in the Malay language, Yakin means 'confidence'.
Hakan has been capped 56 times for Switzerland and played in Euro 2004 as well as the 2006 World Cup with his country. Yakin is considered by many fans to be a provocative player, he is known to have actively provoked opposition fans. He is the brother of Murat Yakın.
