Gulf Coast Indians
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Gulf Coast Indians are a minor league baseball team in Winter Haven, Florida mnaged by Rouglas Odor. They are a Rookie-level team in the Gulf Coast League that began play as a Cleveland Indians affiliate in the summer of 2006. The GCL Indians play home games at Chain of Lakes Park, which is also the big league club's spring training home.
Managed by Chris Tremie in 2006, the GCL Indians finished their inaugural season with a 21-29 record, good for 4th place in the GCL North division.
On September 1, 2006, the Indians announced they will no longer be affiliated with the Appalachian League's Burlington Indians, thus making the Gulf Coast Indians the primary club for developing high-school draftees and international players, with the more advanced rookies playing in Mahoning Valley.
With the announcement of the big league club moving their spring training headquarters from Winter Haven to Goodyear, Arizona beginning in 2009, it is assumed that the GCL Indians will be headed to the Arizona League for the 2009 season.
