The 22nd Dáil was elected at the 1981 general election on 11 June 1981 and first met on June 30 when the 17th Government of Ireland was appointed. The 22nd Dáil lasted for 279 days.

- ^ On 21 August 1981, the Department of Industry, Commerce & Tourism was renamed as the Department of Trade, Commerce & Tourism.
- ^ James Dooge was appointed as Minister for Foreign Affairs on the 21 October 1981. He could not be appointed to cabinet until he had been appointed to the Seanad Éireann and that could not happen for some months because appointments can only take place after the general election for the Seanad has been held.
