Goggin Ice Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goggin Ice Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Goggin Ice Center is a multi-purpose sports facility in Oxford, Ohio serving the Miami University community. It replaces the Goggin Ice Arena. Like its predecessor, it is named for Lloyd Goggin, former school vice president who was instrumental in building the original ice arena.

"The Goggin" features two ice rinks, a competition rink (see Steve Cady Arena, below) and a practice rink. In addition to being the home for Miami's varsity hockey and synchronized skating programs, the building also hosts intramural hockey and broomball programs, hockey camps, skating lessons, and other events.

This is a dual-sheet ice facility with NHL regulation 200'x85' rinks. The competition arena at the Goggin Ice Center is named for Steve Cady, a former RedHawks head ice hockey coach and current associate athletic director who was instrumental in planning the new facility. The secondary arena is called The Jeff Hucke Arena and seats 180.

The arena has a seating capacity of 3,200, including 2,800 reserved lower-bowl seats, 102 club seats, four opera boxes and six private suites. The arena's expected total capacity (including standing room) is nearly 4,000. Extensive locker room areas are provided for multiple users including intercollegiate men's ice hockey, women's synchronized skating, intramural/recreational hockey and broomball, community groups and tournament play. Student-Athlete lounges, strength and conditionaing facilities and coaches offices are also housed at the new Goggin.

The arena's first varsity hockey game was played on October 6, 2006 as Vermont downed Colgate University 6-0. Miami University's first game was that night as they defeated seven-time NCAA champion Denver 5-2 in the Ice Breaker Invitational.
