Georg Werthner

Georg Werthner (born 1956-04-07 in Linz) is a retired decathlete from Austria, who was the first athlete to finish four Olympic decathlons. In 1988 after him Daley Thompson crossed the finish-line to become the second athlete to do this.
Werthner's break through came in 1975, when he placed second at the European Junior Championships with 7424 points. After his first major success he was qualified for the World University Games in the same year, where he became fifth. In 1983 he scored a new Austrian national record in the pentathlon. His score of 4024 points is still place fourteen in the world alltime list. In his career Werthner started in 95 decathlons and finished 78 of them.
