Frank Bowyer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frank Bowyer (b. April 1922, Chesterton, Staffordshire) was an English footballer. He has now passed away.
He joined Stoke City F.C. in June, 1937, soon after leaving school. World War II disrupted his career, and it was not until February 1948, at the age of 26, that he finally played in the Football League and FA Cup competitions. He went on to make 436 senior appearances, netting 149 goals, to become one of the top marksmen in Stoke's history.
Bowyer was never fully capped for England, but did represent his country in an English FA tour of Canada in 1950. After 23 years with Stoke, Bowyer finally left the club in 1960 and became player/manager of Macclesfield Town before retiring in 1963.
