Fido is essentially a cross between several 'boy and his dog' movies, Night of the Living Dead and Pleasantville, only the dog is a zombie.
The film takes place in a fictional alternate universe where humans domesticate zombies using collars that control their hunger for flesh and use them as slaves. One day the Robinson family buys a zombie named Fido who is befriended by young Timmy Robinson. However one day Fido's collar malfunctions and he eats their next door neighbor. Timmy kills the zombie neighbor with a shovel and hides the body. Two bully's are blamed for the murder so they try to frame Timmy and fido for the murder "even though unknown to them it actually was Fido and Timmy." They capture them, tie Timmy up to a tree, and break Fido's collar, but the bully ends up accidentally shooting his brother and is eaten by Fido. Tim's mom comes and rescues Timmy and Fido from the zombie bully's and they try to forget about the whole thing. Unfortunately several days later, the neighbor's body is found and the murder is traced back to fido who is taken away to Zomcom to become a slave. Tim sets out to rescue him with the help of their other next door neighbor who breaks one of the collars on the zombies causing chaos as zombies eat several factory workers. Meanwhile Timmy locates fido but is captured by Zomcom's corrupt leader. He attempts to throw Timmy into the wild zone where zombies run wild and eat anyone who enters. Timmy's dad comes to the rescue and is shot by the Zomcom leader, however Fido takes this opportunity to eat the leader and set Timmy free. The film ends with Fido and Timmy happily playing catch in the back yard.
