[edit] Service badge

I noticed your edit summary re the service award EG; exactly my own thoughts when Snowman informed me that I was entitled to one, but in actual fact it just denotes that you have made a certain number of edits over a particular period of time so there is no need to feel it is gauche. Maybe it's my sick sense of humour (sorry, humor), but I had to laugh when I saw your mention of "Dorothy Hale – a fallen woman"! Do you know, there are so many times I've wanted to add a ridiculous comical little something to an article, such as:

  • "She later adopted 'Peg' (Entwistle) for the stage and held to that name for the remainder of her life. This was a natural choice of name since she had been born with a wooden leg."
  • "No longer able to maintain her high-society lifestyle and penchant for naked skydiving, Hale began to accept the largess of rich lovers and generous friends to supplement the meagre income from her part-time position in the drive-through booth at her local branch of McDonald's.

Feel free to delete the above EG. --Red Sunset 20:36, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Well I had "a red spot on the pavement" but I decided it was impolitic and thought Fallen Woman more descriptive. The more I examine her life, the more appropriate I think it is.EraserGirl (talk) 21:00, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
"Entwistle? Isn't it Entwhistle? With an H? :-) Dekkappai (talk) 20:51, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Don't even GO there. EraserGirl (talk) 21:00, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request

Hi, EraserGirl. If you have time, would you want to take a look at Kim Ki-young for editorial improvements? It's an article on a prominent Korean film director which I helped up to GA a while ago, and would like to put through FA eventually. Thanks! Dekkappai (talk) 22:47, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, EG. The sentence you've marked as unclear means that Kim's full, complete, recognizable style first became apparent in the film The Housemaid. The title character of the film is a femme fatale-- a character type which Kim would feature in most of his mature work, and Korean critics (and international critics also, since Kim's discovery by the international community in 1997) consider one of the best Korean films ever made. I guess it's a lot packed into one sentence. Thanks for the copy-edit! Dekkappai (talk) 01:26, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I got caught up in LIFE stuff and didn't get back right away. I think what bothers me about the sentence is that the 'STYLE' is slightly anthropomorphised. The STYLE performs the action, instead of the subject performing the action. I feel awkward about rewriting sentences on an article already accepted as good. I'm afraid to break something. EraserGirl (talk) 02:06, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

OK-- I see your point-- the style expresses itself. Feel free to work on it, or I'll rewrite it next week. I'm just online for a few minutes this weekend. Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 02:08, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
You may also want to add a citation to it as it sounds overly subjective. I mean is IS an opinion. EraserGirl (talk) 02:50, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
OK-- I reworded it a little. I'll try to source the "first expression of mature style" thing-- I read this assertion so often while researching him, I guess I forgot that it is an opinion which needs sourcing. :-) Thanks again. Dekkappai (talk) 00:04, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry I am dogging it, I haven't had more than a few minutes at a time to do WP and editing takes concentration. I will attend. EraserGirl (talk) 00:53, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem-- this isn't a "fine-toothed comb" request, just a once-over for any awkward prose before I put it through the next step in FA. Dekkappai (talk) 15:50, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
I've had to take time out to deal with that "Life" thing now & then too. Then I get back to the important stuff! Dekkappai (talk) 02:38, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

I have to say that editing the Anna May Wong article was a prime example of collaborative work with some very talented writers, but I am grateful for the fortune cookie. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 02:03, 3 May 2008 (UTC).

I guess I am fortunate enough to see it work. I would have not thought it possible. It seems the primary ingredient is civility - everything else can be compensated for. EraserGirl (talk) 02:42, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
There goes my diet! Thanks EG, but my role was a minor one – jumping in from the wings and interfering occasionally. The honours (there I go again) honors really belong to those who spent significant amounts of time and effort researching and then adding material to the article, you being one of them! As Bill says, it was a team effort and the outcome was the result of collaboration between talented editors, each having their own strengths while recognising those of others. --Red Sunset 07:50, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your talk page

You may well know this but I thought I'd drop in and let you know just in case. You link to Category:Women screenwriters can we written in wiki syntax as such

[[:Category:Women screenwriters|Women screenwriters]]

producing Women screenwriters. You external link works just as well and hope this helps. §hep¡Talk to me! 23:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I think people expect wikilinks in text to go to articles. The category link should be at the bottom of the page and people will look for it there. What the context of this link? Snowman (talk) 21:29, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Guys can we just leave it alone? its just a link to my category of choice on my userpage. EraserGirl (talk) 22:08, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

The link is out of place, It is a bit like seeing an exhaust pipe emerging from the pavement (or sidewalk). Snowman (talk) 22:34, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Don't look. EraserGirl (talk) 23:27, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] June Mathis

Nice pic EG, good composition and you did a great job of cleaning it up. To top it all, it's a public domain image so there should be no probs with over-zealous editors wanting to remove it. --Red Sunset 19:11, 6 May 2008 (UTC) Thanks. There's this lovely script that works with Photoshop and other programs. Works great for reclaiming images from old newspapers and magazines. EraserGirl (talk) 01:02, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Going "Dotty"

If you're on a roll keep going, especially if it's worthwhile material that you're adding or making other improvements. "Impecuniousness" eh, that'll get a few dictionaries dusted off EG! I'll wait for you to take a break before sticking my nose in. --Red Sunset 20:11, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
