Empress Xiao Jing Cheng (Chinese: 孝静成皇后博尔吉济特氏) 1812 - 1855 was the daughter of Hualianga of the Borjigit clan. She was born in the 17th year of the Jiaqing Emperor's reign.
[edit] Biography
Lady Borjigit entered the Forbidden City during the beginning of the Daoguang Emperor's reign. She was soon promoted to the rank of Worthy Lady Jing and in an Imperial Consort Jing (Chinese: 静妃). Borjigit gave birth to three sons and a daughter. Among them was the future Prince Gong. In 1840 Empress Xiao Quan Cheng died and it was Borjigit who raised her son, who would become the Xianfeng Emperor. Afterwards, She also became head of the Imperial concubines.
After the death of the Daoguang Emperor Borjigit was granted the title of "Kang-Ci (Healthy and Motherly) Imperial Noble Dowager Consort" (Chinese: 康慈皇贵太妃) which her son, Prince Gong bitterly resented. In 1855 she became seriously ill and the Xianfeng Emperor was forced grant her with the title Dowager Empress. Borjigit died several days later aged 44. Two years later Borjigit was interred in the Muling Mausoleum for concubines. She was also given the posthumous title of Empress Xiao Jing. The title of Cheng was not given to her directly like Dao Guang's other Empresses but long after her death during Tongzhi Emperor's reign.
