Elphinstone Place is a skyscraper currently approved in Glasgow. The building, which has been in the planning stage since 2004 is mixed use, consisting of offices and apartments. The street level areas of the building are to house leisure facilities such as bars and cafes and retail outlets. Harvey Nichols has been suggested for this site.

This 39-storey structure will be situated at the western end of Blythswood Hill on the edge of Glasgow's financial district (IFSD), on the former site of the Strathclyde Regional Council headquarters on St. Vincent Street.

When completed it will be the tallest building in Scotland. Following the controversy surrounding Glasgow's construction of numerous high-rise tower blocks in the 1960's (many of which were poorly built and have since been demolished) few new residential towers have been built in the city.

This is now changing. The Glasgow Harbour project entails the construction of several such buildings along the River Clyde (though none are as tall as Elphinstone) and has so far been relatively successful in that occupancy has been high.

In addition to Glasgow Harbour there are proposals for other high rise buildings in the city. Interestingly a number of these proposals (Elmbank Place,Charing Cross Tower & the Cheapsidescheme) are for the area surrounding the Elphinstone building, leading to speculation that a 'high rise cluster' may appear in the Charing Cross area of the city, whilst plans for a 26-storey luxury hotel on Argyle Street at the southern end of the IFSD were unveiled in early 2007.

While site clearence was completed in Spring 2007, progress has stalled. There is currently no scheduled start date for the building work. The start of construction has been delayed for about a year[1]
