[edit] Comment
The rise of Ecuador's football team goes back to the Copa America in Brasil 1989. Dussan Draskovic was the coach that led to Ecuador's first win over Uruguay in an official tournament (1-0) and later a tie with then World Champions Argentina (0-0) with Ecuador missing a penalty kick.
Today Ecuador has classified for its second World Cup and will play in Group A with the home country Germany, Poland, and Costa Rica.

[edit] Recent new section
The recently started List of notable Ecuadorians playing internationally seems to be lacking in encyclopaedic qualitiies. It only includes players currently overseas, it has no clear threshold of what makes them "notable", and it has only tangential relevance to the subject matter of the article. It might be worth creating a category Ecuadorian expatriate footballers: there is plenty of precedent for such a thing, but the present section does not, IMHO, enhance the article. - 5 1/2 weeks on, nobody has tried to justify the relevance of the section, so I'm deleting it. If the players are part of the current squad, their club status is already listed; if they are not, the current club of non-internationals is irrelevant to the article.
