Drexel Hill Middle School

Drexel Hill Middle School, located in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, United States, is one of the two middle schools in the Upper Darby School District. It was built in 1957 and was originally the Drexel Hill Junior High School. The school's current principal is Jonathan Ross, and its colors are purple and grey. Drexel Hill Middle School's mascot is the falcon.[1].

The school operates under a "team" system in which students attend classes in "basic" subjects (mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies) with other members of their team. Each grade has four teams. In 6th grade, they are Apollo, Discovery, Enterprise, and Endeavor. In seventh grade, they are Ambassadors, Athenians, Renissance, and Titans. In eighth grade, they are 1776ers, Patriots, Untouchables, and Visionaries. "Related arts" classes include students from various teams and grade levels. Related arts subjects include art, computers, family and consumer science, health, music, and technology[2].

The school has been recognized in 1995 as a National Safe & Drug-free School. In 2001 & 2004 it placed third in the National Champion Future Cities/Young Engineers competition, and First Place in Delaware County (6th & 7th grade) and Second Place in the state (6th grade)in the 2002 Pennsylvania Mathematics League competition. In 1996 & 2001 it was awarded the Pennsylvania State Counselors of the Year, 2000, 2001, & 2002 Pennsylvania State Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalists, News of Delaware County “People’s Picks” Best Middle School in Delaware County 2002. Drexel Hill Middle School was also one of three middle schools in Pennsylvania to be recognized by the Pennsylvania Middle School Association in 2005.[3]
