The Discovery Center of Springfield in Springfield, Missouri, is an interactive hands-on science center for children. The museum was founded in 1998 following planning by the Junior League of Springfield, who saw the need for a museum that would also work in concert with the area's schools. In 2006, the museum's expansion designed by architects at PGAV, featured a 'green' building, which also served as an environmental exhibit.[1][2]
The Center's virtual library, created in 2001 at a time when this technology was still evolving, allowed museum visitors to link with the local public libraries in real time to further understand the exhibits on view.[3] The Center's use of videoconferencing as an outreach tool has been used as a model for adoption and teaching tool.[4]
