The Diocese of St Davids covers the historic extent of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and a small part of western Glamorgan. The see is in the City of St Davids where the seat is located at the Cathedral Church of Saint David which was probably founded as a cathedral in the sixth century on the site of the monastery founded by David.
The bishop's residence is Llys Esgob in Abergwili, Carmarthenshire.
The office of Bishop of St Davids has existed since the founding of the cathedral. The see is currently vacant. The previous bishop was the Right Reverend Carl Norman Cooper, the 127th Bishop of Saint Davids, who was consecrated at St Woolos Cathedral, Newport 20 April 2002 and enthroned in St Davids Cathedral 11 May 2002 and who signed Carl St Davids or Carl Tyddewi.
